Increased calories and weight gain

Recommended Posts

I had my second follow up on 4/14, and my Dr. and Nut wanted to increase my calories 800-1000. I had been getting in about 4-600 calories a day, and hit the 3 week stall, so I've been stalled about 2 weeks now.

This morning I was up 2.6 pounds. I'm trying hard not to freak out about it, but I am definitely having the feelings of this isn't going to work for me and wtf.

So, did this happen to anyone else? I'm focusing on getting in my Protein and liquids. I've been getting at least 60-85 grams of Protein a day, and mostly staying lower carbs. They want me to start getting in more veggies also. I'm still mostly soft foods right now.

Any advice?

Don't watch the scale....I gain a few, then the next week drop 6lbs. I have never just steadily dropped weight, so I quit weighing often. Now I am @ a 54lb loss, today is 4 months.

Weight can fluctuate drastically from day to day and it has nothing to do with calories. You understand that it takes 3500 calories to actually gain a pound of fat, right? To have actually put on 2.6 pounds of real weight, you would have had to eat 9100 calories. It's just Water retention. Stick to the plan your Dr. and NUT gave you and stop weighing daily or learn to not take the scale so seriously. I weight daily, but I understand how my body works, so seeing the day-to-day fluctuations doesn't mess with my emotions.

Are you taking your measurements, because I am at 1 month today and I am stalled too, but took my measurments and I am down 4 inches on my waist and 2 1/2 around my hips and can wear pretty panties now. still big girls but at least it's a start.

Don't get discouraged keep going it is going to happen.

LOL, I've always read that too, but I don't know if I believe it.. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right things.. sometimes my Nut tells me some things like, not to lift weights, cause I'm going to bulk up, and to eat things for carbs that I shouldn't really be eating.

I just have the irrational fear, that I went through all this and it still won't matter.

Well, that's ridiculous, so maybe your NUT isn't as educated as I'd hope. But I don't think it's unreasonable for you to be aiming for 800-1000 calories a day. You want to keep your metabolism up and stay out of starvation mode. And if you are doing ANY sort of exercise, you need to be eating more calories in order to sustain your activity level. Definitely don't worry about this 2.6 pound "gain". It can only be Water weight and there is no way you are actually GAINING real weight eating under 1000 calories a day. Stalls and slow-downs are common around the 3 week mark post-op and things usually pick up again a few weeks after that, so just hang in there.

@@Chrystee I'm not allowed to lift weight (limit 10lb) until at least 6 weeks to let my stomach heal. I keep getting the same past diet fail feelings, like this surgery won't work for me. Today i didn't get on the scales even.

Yea, I am working on it. I did end up starting my period, and today I was down 2 of the 2.6 I was up Friday. So I am definitely working on eating more, although yesterday I barely ate much at all, I just wasn't hungry.

I got the all clear last week at my 2nd follow up. :)

I'm happy to report a 2 pound loss as of last Saturday and then an additional pound as of today, so my stall has finally broken!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
