wanabthin 0 Posted June 14, 2007 I have my apt. for my consultation and if all goes well I should be scheduled for surgery within a couple weeks following. There are so many things going through my head right now I can't even get them all out. I asked DH what his concerns were and he only has one...what if it doesn't work, then what? I didn't know how to answer this other than to say it WILL work, it HAS to work but now the question is still haunting me. What if it doesn't work for me??? JulieNYC 4 Posted June 14, 2007 If it didn't work for me, my plan was (1) figure out if the problem was medical or psychological and, (2) if it was medical, then I would have converted to the bypass. I hoped not to have to reroute my organs, but I was to the point that I would have if I couldn't get off at least most of the weight. Thankfully, the band is a great tool and it doesn't come to that for most. Good luck with your journey.
Alexandra 55 Posted June 14, 2007 The beautiful thing about lap-banding is that it's NOT the final straw. There are other things to try if it doesn't work. There are three other bariatric surgeries that are more drastic, but that have more-certain results (in the short term). They are RNY, Duodenal Switch, and Gastric Sleeve. I knew that if I could let the band help me eat less, I would lose weight. So that's where the effort lies--LETTING the band HELP. If I found myself unable to let the band help, then I'd be looking at something more drastic. Those options remain for you, so turn your attention to the band and what it can help you do. There's always more choices down the road.
