Good evening to all ????

How long did everyone have to take their pain meds after surgery? I have a little one I have to take care of during the day and needed to know what I'm looking at, with being able to take my meds.

I was home by Wednesday and took my last dose on Friday morning. Honestly I did that because all of my pain was from the gas they pump into your belly and pain mess do nothing for that pain in my opinion.

What works is:

- walking around as much as possible

- using a heating pad (this actually works the best)

- chewable gas x tablets

- sipping as much liquid as you possibly can

For me the gas was gone by Sunday which was just 6 days post op.

Good luck on your surgery!

I filled my prescription just in case but did not take pain medication as I don't like the side effects. Even still I had to deal with Constipation at about day four or five; wished I had gotten ahead of that. Walking really helped me, windmill arms, the Happy Baby yoga pose when in bed. I used a heating pad at times as well as icepacks for incisional pain. Be sure not to pick up your child until your are healed up! Congratulations on choosing to get healthy and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I filled mine to, and thank you for well wishes.. I definitely won't pick my kid up, and I bought a new heating pad/spa blanket type heating pad, and good idea on ice packs for incisions..

It's definitely good to know that I won't need pain meds. I know how they make you feel on an empty stomach and with not eating much after surgery, that'll be the case..

I took no pain medicine after I left the recovery room. Pain was very minimal. But I may be an exception to the rule. Prior to surgery, I walked at least 30 minutes each day for several months and after surgery I walked (100 lapse during the 2 days after the operation while I was in the hospital). The walking really helped with the recovery process.

I'm definitely doing the walking thing as soon as they let me, I'm so glad to know that it'll make gas pain dissipate faster!! How long did your Doc have you in hospital?

I didn't need narcotic pain meds when I went home 24 hours after surgery. I did fine chewing up a couple of Tylenol Jrs for the first week. Pain was so much less than I expected.

They sell an adult Tylenol liquid that works great. You can take it every 4 hours. Just make sure you take it by the clock.

That plus the heating pad should be plenty for you after the first couple days. Best of luck!! :)

I was in the hospital for 2 days. That was too long. I was ready to go home after 1 day.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
