My surgeon recommended avoiding fibrous veggies (broccoli stems, lettuce, cabbage, celery) until six months out. Of course, most everything is "as tolerated," unless specifically prohibited by your surgeon/nutritrionist.

I'm 10 weeks out and tried a couple veggies for the first time this weekend. salad from Olive Garden went down great! Tried broccoli the next day, maybe 1/8 of a cup....three hours of belching, crying, puking pain. I loved broccoli before.....I will never try it again.

I'm not allowed to have iceberg lettuce. But I was eating salad around the third week. I have not had any trouble keeping it down. I use Bibb and romaine (I tear out the middle hard stem), red/green leaf lettuce and butter lettuce. I add very finely diced cucumber, shredded carrot, chopped Tomato and it doesn't bother me at all.

Did anyone have severe pain in their pouch after having lettuce? I tried it twice and I thought my pouch was going to turn itself inside out. I didn't feel sick or anything and didn't have any "bathroom issues"....just lots of pain for about an hour after I ate the salad.< /p>

I was adding raw spinach to my Protein Drink from week 1 Granted pureed in the nutra bullet takes a lot of the hard work off my tummy. I was making smallish salads on weeks 3 - 4 with no issues, mostly romaine or spinach leaves. My NUT had no issues with it and it didn't upset my tummy in the least. Mind you I'm vegetarian so my body may be more accustomed to raw veg than most. I never eat iceburg lettuce, it is a nutritional waste of space. I go for Vitamin rich dark green leafy veg.

I had a few different kinds of lettuce in my salad, plus chicken, and it just HURT. I was brave and went to Subway yesterday for a flatbread sandwich and had just spinach and green pepper for the veggies and had not one issue with it. Maybe I tried the salad too soon??? NUT said it was OK to have so I thought I'd be OK :-(

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
