Hi - I am going to have my surgery in July and am wondering about dealing with loose skin after the weight comes off. I see lots of people who have had the surgery and they don't seem to have loose skin - I weigh 240 lbs. right now and work two jobs so I am very busy, and I know I will have to find time to exercise ( I used to walk 3 miles a day before I became a business owner and don't have much time now ). I would appreciate it if someone would let me know of their experiences with this. I still have so many questions about the surgery but am really worried about loose skin. Thanks

I started around your weight and have lost close to 70 lbs in 9 months. I'm 50 years old and my skin has seen better days and isn't nearly as elastic as it once was.

I'm researching Tummy Tuck surgery right now but if the insurance doesn't approve it I'll live without it.

I'm pleasantly surprised that I don't look like I'm wearing a suit of saggy, flapping skin when I'm naked. I'm no candidate for a belly shirt or a thong, but no nearly as bad as I thought I would look at this point.

Try toning exercises as you lose to firm up as much as you can.

Hey Sweetpea, Unfortunately loose skin for some people is a sad reality especially if you are a bit older/or have lots of weight to lose. I have some loose skin, and I tell you what mate it's bringing sexy back! NOT!

Well I have stretch marks, scars, and loose skin. Yay! I've got the whole trifecta.:(:smellie:

Ive started by getting a prescription for retin a from my derm incase I develop stretch marks and Ive been applying Vitamin e oil after every shower all over as well as taking a hair/skin/nails suppliment and drinking lots of Water. I havent been banded yet but I have been loosing steadily for last 2 months dieting I also just joined a gym. Granted none of it may work but I have to try lol and the girls are in the firmest support bras all the time now. We will see if it paid off in about a year so long as I keep it up.

You would probably see me and say I dont have loose skin but it is there, just not a lot of it. I'd attribute it as much to 3 babies as to weight loss though, I had about 80lb to lose.

In our support group meeting, we had an instructor from a gym come by and he said, " the slower you lose the weight, the less likely you will have the sagging skin" He thinks the skin has time to shrink up and the elasaticity will bring it back to normal when you do it slowly...and if you are doing work outs that tone...

I started at 248 last October. I have lost just over 90 pounds. I do have some skin, but it isn't anything that I can't deal with. I found some shapers by legs that are kind of like panty hose with nothing below the knees. They hold the jiggles in place under lighter weight clothes. I can still wear shorts and cute tops, but my belly does have skin that will not be shown other than my back yard. I may consider some kind of surgery on down the road. But for now I have to wait to see when my new band is going to be put in. My current one has slipped. I go in Monday for an x-ray to see what is happening. Lucky me!

I've decided this morning that I am officially pissed off by the shape of my backside, lol. I'd just gotten back from an 8km run. I run, I do weighted squats and lunges and I sometimes do spin classes too. Why is it then that I am within my healthy weight range and I still have a dimpled saggy bum that jiggles like a bowl of custard?

I dont think I'd ever have a Tummy Tuck for the minor amount of blob I have there, nobody ever sees my tummy anyway and it doesnt show in clothes. But there's definintely Lipo on my thighs and backside in my future.

I can already see that I will need to have my arms and neck worked on. My neck won't be that bad but I've never liked the way it looked. But my upper arms are showing signs of being loose even with exercising. I've lost 62 pounds in 4 months and have another 100 or so left to lose and I exercise everyday. It's just something for me to be prepared for.

I lost over 100lbs and 3 weeks ago I had my TT. I think it was the best thing I ever did. Not that I could ever wear a bikini.Even after the TT I still have stretch marks. But the rashes I had under the mass tere is now gone. Kinda strange to take a shower and not have to lift anything up.

question someone told me yesterday for ever 100lb you lose you get 30lb of loose skin is that true?

I highly doubt that.

I lost close to 190lbs, and they took off 700 grams (just over 1lb)

If a person is still overweight when they have PS, yes, it is far more likely that the will have more weight removed along with the skin. But if a person only had 100lbs to lose to get down to a normal BMI / weight range, there is no way that the extra skin will weigh that much.

To the op - I had, and have excess skin. I had a Tummy Tuck, but have had nothing else nipped or tucked (no Lipo with my tuck, nor have I had my arms, legs or boobs done)

My arms, legs and boobs are saggy - yes, but nowhere near as bad as I expected them to be, and honestly, I would much rather have a little extra skin that is hidden by my clothes than be morbidly obese.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
