3 Days Post-op Weight Gain?

Recommended Posts

It is my third day and everything went according to plan. Just got home from the hospital and weighed myself for the first time. I was shocked to see that i actually have gained 8 pounds since the day of surgery. How is that possible? Is it the gas, is it the fluids, or is there something else?

Probably gas and all of the fluids you were given. I had surgery Monday and going home today.. I Wana try to avoid the scale but I know that's a lie.

It's the fluids. I am having surgery next week but when I had my kids each time I went home weighing more than when I got there....and that's even having an 8lb 10oz'er lol.

It will come off quickly

Fluids from the IVs and Water retention from the swelling. I came home 6 lbs heavier... but it came off the first week.

I came back heavier, too. Gas, fluids,-what everyone else is saying. Nothing to worry about. Momentary setback, if you can even call it that because those pounds will start flying off. Congratulations and good luck with your recovery.

I had gained 10 pounds after surgery. The hospital pumps IV fluids while you are there. I am now one week post op and I have lost 15. Be patient.

I'm 10 days post op, I came home 5 lbs heavier too. It's no big deal the Fluid weight came off in e few days. Saw my suergeon today and I get to start " very soft foods" on Monday. The first think I'm going to have is a small amount of homemade mashed potatoes. Beyond excited for something delicious!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
