LiberalInAZ 10 Posted April 15, 2015 I'm so frustrated right now. I found a doctor I liked. His office called Aetna to check my benefits and Aetna gave them the information as in-network. So I went in for the consultation and when I got the claim they were paid as if out of network and I got a bit bill. I have already reached my out of pocket maximum for in network, so that was very surprising. Turns out that the doctor IS in network but he is not an "Aexcel" provider, which means he is treated as if out of network on my plan. Furthermore, Aetna could not even provide me with the name of a doctor on the Aexcel plan who does gastric bypasses.
James Marusek 5,244 Posted April 15, 2015 Working with health insurers can be very frustrating. I went to one doctor who was in-network. I chose him because he showed up on their website as an in-network provider. But when the bill came in, it showed as out-of-network. I called my health provider and said he was in network. They disagreed. I said he shows up on your website. They then told me their website must be wrong. I met with the doctor's staff, and they said he was in-network. It is frustrating when you cannot even financially plan for all the various doctors and medical expenses when the health provider will not even honor their own listings. In the end the doctor and the health provider resolved the issue and the charges were in-network.
