I haven't had any problems with spicy food at all. Even started adding taco sauce to my eggs and such in the soft foods stage. The main thing that took some getting used to with spicy foods is not being able to eat and drink at the same time. If it's really spicy, it's hard not to want to reach for some Water to wash it down!

At about six weeks I tried medium salsa and have not had a problem with it. I have had spicy chili with no problem. But a jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese did me in for a couple of days. It really got its revenge all the way through my system, to a painful exit.

My NUT told us no more spicy foods because they could cause an ulcer. However I have eaten wings with no problems and have accidentally taken a bite or two of something spicy (not a huge spicy fan besides wings).

Just finished my leftover scallops with wasabi sauce from dinner last night - and I regularly eat wasabi seaweek, salsa and the Indian foods--just remember the Water with meals prohibition means it's good to taste a tiny bite first so you don't feel like extinguishing the fire with a big gulp! I did wait a month or so post op though--in case it affected healing, though that was never medical advice or anything. Honestly spicy foods help me feel satisfied more easily, and so I consider them a bonus!

I'm not a "spicy" fan at all, but I do love wasabi. I can also do Frank's Hot Sauce which a lot of people think isn't hot at all. I can handle both of them with no problem.

I was always having very spicy meals before WLS. However, since surgery I have not been able to handle it. It's actually quite frustrating because I love the taste of spicy foods but my sleeve will not tolerate it any more.

Hi, I am in week 3 post op and wanted a more robust & flavorful food a couple of days ago so I made chili with all the spices, bells and whistles. My sleeve handled it just fine but I take a prescribed lansoprazole (melts on my tongue) daily so have no acid/heartburn issues to date. Experiment and see how it goes and I wish you all the best.

Thank you so much for asking this question!! I am 2 weeks post op, and have always been a HUGE spice nut! I can't wait to eat crawfish! We have a crawfish boil this weekend to attend, and I want some badly, but kinda scared. I also love me some Franks Hot Sauce, and Tony Cachere's seasoning!

Yes, I'm 5 weeks out and have been slowly adding spice back in. I love spicy foods, so I'm hoping my stomach (what's left of it) has memory of the heat. :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
