Staples, glue or stitches?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved April 9th and my surgeon closed with staples and put waterproof bandages over them. I go back this Friday to have the staples removed. A friend of mine was sleeved almost a year ago and she said that her surgeon didn't use staples, he used surgical glue and put lidocaine Patches over them and she had to wear a band around her middle. I never had to wear any kind of band. I am assuming this is just a difference in surgeon preference. I have no need for the Patches, I really have not had any pain other than trapped gas. A little sore, but that's all. Just wondering what everyone else had.

I had staples and no band. I know the other surgeon that works in my surgeons practice uses glue instead of staples. Either way, Whatever works for them I guess. I had mine removed and it really was no biggie. My scars are a light pink and they are fading every week.

I had internal stitches and external glue. No band or any sort of compression garment.

I had staples.. They removed them before I left the hospital. Then the nurses in the hospital applied glue & strips. I wore an abdominal binder for like 2 weeks, I was given that in the hospital.

I had glue that closed my five very small wounds, with no bandages or coverings. That was very weird for me I wanted to cover them and protect them while they healed. :)

I had one on my left side that opened a teeny tiny bit and I did cover that one a few days but other than that they all healed up pretty nicely!

Hi.

Surgery on 11/21/14 - glue only and only 4 incisions. 2 (1/4" incisions) and 2 (looks like puncture wounds).....

I was only in surgery for about 45 minutes.

I guess they said I prepped well.

I was glued and had tape on them. I was told to let the tape fall off on their own. My belly was soooooooo itchy for days after surgery! Lol.

Internal stitches and glue. No bandages. The glue took a few weeks to finish coming off.

I think I had glue. I never really paid attention because they were covered with Steri- strips.

I had Steri-strips, no staples or external stitches. My surgeon put band aids on top of my Steri strips initially, they game off a day later, and 4 days after surgery my surgeon removed my Steri-strips. If I had any discomfort with my incision site I just threw a band aid over it. I didn't have any band or anything I had to wear, though I do know some people wore a band but that was for comfort not for wound protection. :)

Staples and steri strips. Staples were removed on day two post surgery and told that steri stops would come off naturally. No belly band.

Internal stitches (2 worked their way up through the incisions and I pulled them out with tweezers with the advice of my dr) and external glue that I had to let come off on its own. Glue to almost a month to completely come off..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
