I am 6weeks post op and things are beginning to be too big (yay). My question is, did you all hang on to your old clothes when this happened, "just in case" or did you get rid of them IMMEDIATELY. I am leery because I have gained and lost SO many times and each time I got rid of my bigger clothes because "I would never need them again." While I am certain that is the case now it still makes me nervous

Honey, save the biggest tent piece of clothing and get rid of the rest. You aren't going back there! You didn't start a diet, you changed your life. Own it and you'll do wonderful things for yourself and your health!

Congrats on your success so far! I would donate a lot of my items to Goodwill as soon as they were too large. I also bought lots of ' transition' items at Goodwill or other thrift/resale stores so I never felt bad if I had to get rid of them a few weeks later. I never want a reminder of how big I was once.

There are some sites that you can sell your old clothes on and get $ to buy new ones! Look at old posts for suggestions on where. I'm not there yet but hope to be :-)

I am having this same issue right now. I've separated out all my too-big clothes and put them in a pile, but I haven't committed to giving them away just yet. I have that niggling thought in the back of my mind that I *might* need them again, the way I have in the past. When I lost 90 pounds "on my own" in 2010/11, I got rid of all my clothes as I was losing and it was HUMILIATING and DEMORALIZING to have to go back out and buy bigger clothes as I regained. I still can't shake the fear of having to do that again.

Thanks ladies! Jamielogical so sorry you are going thru this too but glad to know I am not alone. I really don't have much that is truly too big at this point because I refused to buy clothes I literally had like 3 pair of jeans and a few t shirts to my name that I could get in to when I was at my largest. But when I get to that stage I will definitely keep my largest looking piece and get rid of the rest. You guys are right and Jamielogical you should listen to them too! This is NOT another diet this is a new LIFE. I NEVER thought I could live without Doritos, hot tamales and diet coke but I HAVE for almost TWO whole months!! WOOT woot!

I had a closet "culling" at about 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 10 months, 14 months and even found a box of "H's skinny clothes" in my basement last week full of size 12's I'd worn for about 5 minutes after the last failed weight loss attempt years ago. That box went with my mother today for her\my niece or whomever they donate it to! I wear a 4/6 today and DO NOT intend to go back! I donated to family, charity, friends and sold what I could to second hand boutiques or on some Facebook sites I belong to for biker folk who are always looking for "broken in" leathers and bike parts!

As far as managing wardrobe while losing, hit the thrift stores for basics, second hand boutiques for designer jeans on the cheap, learn to use belts and scarves and frequent sale racks, coupon shop when you can. Dresses are more forgiving than skirts\pants when they're roomy. I think I lived in leggings and tunics last year. Still love them. Feels like jammies at work! It's a GOOD problem to have!

I just cleaned out my closet and drawers today. I have four large bags of clothes that are too big. It feels so good that they are too big, but I have that little voice in my head saying, maybe I should keep these clothes just in case. I do not plan on ever going back there, but I have gained and lost sooo many times before.

This time it is going to be different and I vow to not let myself gain the weight back EVER!!!! I have not felt this good in so long! I love trying on smaller sizes and they fit. I am down 64 pounds and 20 more to go!!!

All of the above. And then some! This is what I figure (and this is STRICTLY for myself!!!): if I KEEP them, that means I don't have faith in myself to see this through, FOREVER. I not only CAN do this, but AM doing this!!! I also do NOT want a reminder of what I was, so I have stashed a size SMALL pair of jeggings (my favorite clothing in ALL the world) in my closet, to be brought out when I feel I am getting close....and I AM! I am now in a medium!!! I try to ALWAYS look forward (nothing wrong with looking back, but looking back makes me feel sad. I don't LIKE feeling sad.) to what I CAN be, NOT what I WAS. I just don't want to have those feelings return. If I take away the things that make me feel sad, they have no more power over me. Gone are the old clothes, IN WITH THE NEW!

I have donated three bags to Goodwill so far. As I try to wear something and it is too big for me, I throw it in a bag. When the bag gets full, I drop it off. I personally don't ever want to see those clothes and sizes again. It was hard in the beginning but now I have convinced myself that I am NOT going back there again. I feel a lot like @@CanyonBaby, if I keep them....then I don't have faith in myself and this commitment to myself. I just say (as I place an item in the bag), I will never need this size again!

It's kinda like having a funeral...I think about the memories I have of the things I did or things that happened while wearing that particular garment, give it a fond hug, THEN KISS THAT SUCKER GOODBYE!!!

I have a whole new wardrobe - and loving it - put all my old clothes away and don't regret it for a minute.

FB swaps are really popular and have been a great way to make money. Way more profit then say consignment. Check around. Save your largest, most amazing item and start letting it go, the rest that is. Pretty soon you'll have a virtual sea of clothes. May as well stay on top of it. They're gone, for good.

I only saved my two biggest stretched out capris that I was living in daily and two tops to try on and see how far I have come.

Everything else went bye bye!! I have been selling my clothes on a couple Facebook group pages and using that money to buy new clothes, I love it. It is fun and fairly easy. Stuff that doesn't sell I have donating. I average between $5-$15 per item depending on what it is after shipping. I have also purchased a few things off the sites too. When I went thru my closet there were so many items that still had tags on them it was crazy. Some things I shrunk down into others I lost to fast and couldn't wear.

But make sure you keep an outfit from where you started and I always tell people take monthly photos and measurements too. The scale shouldn't be your only measure of your success!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
