Hi I'm scheduled to get the Sleeve 5/6/15. I have two-year old twins and wanted to know how quickly you were able to get back to normal after the sleeve. My BMI is right at 40 so I don't have a tremendous amount of weight to lose so I'm hoping I can get back to normal in a couple days, just no lifting. I plan to go back to work in a week. Anyone please, how much downtime did you experience?

Thanks,

Nerkerle

You should be fine to take care of them as soon as you get home. They encourage you to move around, anyway. You will have to arrange for someone to help out with the lifting of them, laundry, etc for a few weeks until you get cleared for lifting. You will be pretty tired and sore the first week, but it was nothing I couldn't handle. Granted, I didn't have 2 year old toddlers to take care of, either ;)

I was working from home the week I got home from the hospital. I went to a final walk through and a closing of a house the same week (Realtor).

I dont have any children but I can say you will be feeling back to yourself in about a week. I would just recommend resting as much as possible within that week because the hardest part for me was the anesthesia. It takes a little while for you to kick that out of your body. Other than that you will be golden.

I had my band to sleeve revision on a Wednesday. A friend took my dog for me because I wasn't able to care for my other dog when I had the band years ago. I came home on a Thursday and by Friday told my friend to bring the dog back home. I was feeling fine

@@nerkerle, I had my sleeve on March 30th and I have a 2 year old & 15 year old daughters. While I was in the hospital, my sister took care of them because my boyfriend stayed with me in the hospital. The first two days I was home, I sent my little one to daycare. I wasn't strong enough to take care of her. She is very active. During the second week of recovery, my little one stayed home with me and I felt much, much better. I took 2 weeks off work and that was good enough for me. I am one of the few lucky ones. I have not had any complications, nausea of vomiting since surgery. I feel fantastic!

@@MaryC94 thanks so much. My date is Wednesday and plan to be home Thursday. My goal is to be strong enough to take them to daycare Friday. Fingers crossed. Unfortunately I don't have much support from my husband. He's totally against it; he also just started a new job and may not be able to take off. :(

I had my gastric sleeve last week on Tuesday. I was able to start back working on Friday. I was just a little bit sore but wearing the ab binder really helps especially if you’re dealing with children and you have to be down a little bit because without it on it hurts a lot have been down already back up to walking without any problems I do about 9000 steps a day. I don’t have any small children. I have teenagers but they’re just as bad as toddlers. I have to do stuff around the house. They help out a lot but at least for me. It was only a couple days after surgery that I feel like I was able to do enough, so take your time to listen to your own body we’re all gonna be different. My results are not usual and even my doctor thinks it’s crazy that I’m able to do the things I’m able to do.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
