One year post op. Same psych meds I've been on for at least 7 years. I'm having bouts of amnesia. My meds have never been adjusted. One I take, prozac causes amnesia. Also xanax. I can't find anything on google. I did look up prozac. Not only is it reported to cause amnesia but a large portion of amnesia reactions come from MS patients. I was dx'd with MS in 2007. Help!

I am a licensed clinician but I wouldn't dare give medical advice over the Internet. My professional hat comes off when I'm on this forum. I would suggest you contact your medical provider and tell them your concerns. Your medication may need to be adjusted.

I guess no one has given me a straight answer rather due to fast weightloss did they become overly sensitive to their psych meds? I was just at my primary. He believes too high of dose is causing amnesia. He tested me for dementia all was perfect. My psychiatrist has me in his office for the length of time to write my scripts. There is no conversing. In and out in under 5 minutes.

Hi Kimpossible...I would suggest making the psychiatrist aware of your concern. Or getting a new one if you can't talk to your current one. Any doctor you have should be aware of your thoughts, feelings and especially your concerns. Otherwise you won't get the care you deserve. Dont be content to be invisible. By not being an aggressive advocate for your own health, you could be harming yourself. And any time I've realized I wasn't comfortable sharing my thought with a doctor, I had to move on. You should too. I wish you the best of luck AND health!

Well an interesting tidbit. I take a handful of psych meds one being prozac for OCD. He really honed in on that one saying it causes amnesia. So I go home and half heartedly look up prozac. Much to my shock I read that one of the largest groups complaint about amnesia are MS patients! I was diagnosed with it in 2007. I began my current psych meds in 2008. Long time. Why now are they going haywire?

My psych does not talk nor ask questions. He refills and sends me on my way in under 3 minutes I'm sitting in his office. My therapist does not have a dialogue with my psych about what we discuss so what's the point?

All I can find is that mega weight loss often means psych meds may need to be increased NOT decreased! Ugh

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
