Frustrated! Need advice...

Recommended Posts

I am a little over 4 months post op. I am down about 88 pounds so far. Which is good but my problem is I haven't lost anything in about 2 weeks. Which is crazy to me because I have increased my exercise. I usually eat around 800 calories a day. Mostly Protein. What can I do to get off of this plateau? Any advice would be appreciated.

I think this is the crux of your problem. Increased exercise takes increased calories to sustain. If you are active and still only consuming 800 calories a day, you will run into problems with weight loss and energy levels. Try increasing your calories by introducing an extra high-Protein snack once a day. You may also want to introduce a few complex carbs (gasp!) shortly before your workouts. I started seriously exercising right around my 4 month mark as well and by adding a string cheese stick in the morning and then some granola or kashi Cereal to my afternoon yogurt (last thing I eat before I work out), I was able to have the energy I needed to get through my workouts, not feel hungry through the day, and continue losing weight.

I am right there with you and posted the same thing. I have lost 89 pounds in 6 months and have been pleased until now. I guess I just keep at it. I may make an appointment with my doctor or nurse to talk. I don't want to become so frustrated that I start to slip and make choices again.

Agreed! As counterintuitive as is sounds if you eat a little more (especially if you are workingout) will boost you weight loss and your metabolism, to burn more calories long after you are done with said workout. Your body is very complex, if you are working hard and not giving it enough fuel it will not work properly and go into starvation mode and hold on to everything to keep it running.

You can not get a sports car to run if you do not have gas!

I agree with @@JamieLogical I also would like to add that this can become a problem because it is becoming in a sense another eating disorder but to the extream other side of what we have all been through. Do not be afraid of food. Your body needs food to sustain you. It may have been a weapon for us before the surgery but that was our issues and not the food itself. If you are 4 months out and eating only 800 calories a day on top of exercise you are essentially starving yourself and being counterprodutive. Your body will start to use your new formed muscle mass as energy to fuel your brain. Your body needs to convert fat and Protein into glucose in order to fuel your brain and you need to respect its natural mechanism. Please take care.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
