weight loss slow down

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. This is only my second time posting. I wondered if anyone else has hit a major slow down on weight loss. I am 61/2 months post surgery and I am having a hard time moving on. I still weight what I weighed at my six month check up 185. I cant seem to move on. Has anyone else had this problem or maybe this is just typical?? I think I need a little motivation. Can anyone help me? PLEASE!

Yup, right at 6 months I hit about a 6 week stall. I see quite a few sleevers slow down or stall around that time, also. Pretty typical.

I would suggest trying to change things up a little with your diet and exercise. Maybe try upping your calories a bit, and try eating different kinds of foods (not too carby, though). If you are exercising, exercise more. Or change it up a little. Our bodies kind of get complacent after a while, and need the shock of a little change to get things moving again. Good luck!

I appreciate you getting back to me on this. I try to keep motivated but sometime you wonder if you will just be at this amount FOREVER, but now I know it can happen to anyone and I will keep truckin on. Some one also told me that you can start to slow down at about 6 months too.

I have two sayings that I keep in front of me at my desk and they help too. First one...

"The only thing standing between you and what you want is you and what you aren't will to do."

Second one... Remember how far you have come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be.

I say them over and over again. Thanks for your help again.

I posted this advise in another post... Hope this helps!

The scale can be grueling to say the least as we all know. During those times when the scale is not moving, I suggest breaking out the tape measure. Trust me when I say those inches are melting away! I am a VERY slow looser and yet I went from a size 22 down to a size 10 in less than 11 months.

By the way... Day of surgery 265, current day 180! :D

Sorry you're having to tough it out with this slow down @davesblond - I know first hand how hard that is! A lot of us stalled at around 6 months, myself included. Then started losing again. For me it helped to do a fluctuation of calories (I went up a bit and then back down) and to really change up my exercise routine. Others have posted on here that it was something they had to 'wait out' for the most part. That' might have had the same effect as my changing things up - I'll never know, but take heart, it'll start again if you're eating carefully and exercising. I find tracking really helps too. GOod luck and hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
