What happens at presurgery consultation with surgeon?

Recommended Posts

I have sleeve scheduled for April 23rd and I am nervous as a cat! Tommorrow I meet with the coordinator to get pre surgery instructions, go through pre admissions and then meet with the surgeon. Does he do an exam or review records and talk? Just do better when I know what to expect. Thanks, Mimi .

I had my 3 hour nutrition class the day of my final visit with the doctor, and my NUT advised me to write down questions to ask the doctor. I only had a few, which I asked, he answered, and that was it! My visits were very brief each time, no exam. I guess I researched enough before hand, and that it was ok for me!

Even the day after surgery (I was outpatient), I went back to the office to have my drain removed and my doc wasn't there when I arrived, so his partner took it out for me. I've spent a lot more time talking with my NUT than I have my doctor!

My pre-op consultation was a lot of talking. I was weighed one last time and then the surgeon reviewed my chart. He made sure that all my prerequisites were completed. He went over all his expectations for surgery and made sure I was comfortable with everything. He also showed me where he expected me to get weight wise.

I also met with anesthesia to review all of their stuff. They made sure it was safe for me to have the anesthesia and reviewed things about blood clots and walking and breathing.

It is recommended to have someone accompany you to these consults. Be prepared with any questions that you may have. Good luck
