I asked my surgeon about that. He told me about 8% of people have to have it removed eventually, but they will not remove a gallbladder that is not already diseased. Hope that helps.

I had to have mine removed about a year after my sleeve surgery, it wasn't that big of a deal and I wouldn't trade the 200lb weight loss for anything.

@@Janex43 i had mine removed 3 months after I was sleeved. I woke up feeling extreme nausea, that same evening i was rushed to hospital. Two days later it was removed. Recovery took 5 weeks in all ie thats when i was able to lift things i was previously restricted from doing.

I should also say it was removed because i had gall stones stuck in the gall bladder wall, the only option was to remove the whole thing.

I had mine removed 12 years ago due to pancreatitis and getting sleeved next month. One notable experience is I have frequent BMs.

I had to have a pre-surgery ultrasound on mine and it was diseased so it was removed 3/18. I was told that if it was already bad then it would cause lots of problems post sleeve surgery. My symptoms were lots of upper abdomen pain after eating. If I had a stone move then I was in excruciating pain.

I always thought it was strange that the doc would remove the gall bladder for precautionary reasons.

I don't think I'd want that. But now that I'm having gall bladder pains, I sort of wish he did lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
