Ladies over 50 - bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm Pamela and so happy to have found a group for 50 and over. I'm 56, and scheduled for the bypass in October. I'm very concerned about dumping syndrome. Can some of you please share your experiences with dumping syndrome and throwing up? These are my major concerns.

I had bypass 4/21/15 and haven't experienced dumping syndrome. If you eat what you're supposed to and steer clear of sugar and fats, you'll be just fine. I'm down 71 lbs. and feel absolutely wonderful. Best of luck on your journey!!!

I've read some posts where it seems everyone throws up their food and find it hard to keep down. I'm concerned about this possibility. Anyone else?

No throwing up either. Chew slowly and to a liquid consistency. Take 30 minutes to complete your meal and NO liquid with meal! I've found after eating fish that I make sure to start drinking 30 minutes afterwards as it doesn't move as smoothly through me. It's super healthy and Protein packed so I try and eat it at least one meal 5-6 days per week. I have easy access to year round fresh seafood, so why not :)

I am close to 6 months and had one episode of throwing up...the " foamies". It was about 5-6 weeks out and simply from eating too fast. I have been able to eat all meats without any issue. I am down 88 pounds and back to my active self.

I haven't had any throwing up, or dumping. I had RNY on April 28th. I'm not sure why some have problems with that and some not, but I'm thankful for my good fortune. What I've dealt with more often is feeling over full and uncomfortable at times if I eat one or two bites too many.

@@Cherry Muffley - I loved the 2 week liquid diet pre-surgery! My NUT laughed at me when I told her how much fun I had with it. She said hearing that was a first for her. It's all about doing your homework and being creative. Listen, we all LOVE food or we wouldn't be taking these drastic measures to try and get healthy, right?! I had surgery at mayo and my liquid diet consisted of Optifast shakes and any non-caloric beverages, period! I bought a Nutribullet and turned my vanilla and chocolate shakes into rootbeer floats, chocolate ice cream, hot chocolate, pumpkin spice frappuccinos, etc. If you have the will, there's a way. Post-op I've enjoyed such high Protein foods as delicious quiche, noodle-less lasagna, pudding, warm gooey Cookies, etc. My philosophy is I want what small amounts of food I can eat or drink to be the best tasting things I can get. Preparation is key to success. I just got back from a 2 week vacation in the beautiful Florida Keys where I lost 6 lbs. This new life is the BEST!!!

Wow, fuzzy feline, I can't believe how much we have in common. I had RNY in March, 5 days after my 65th birthday. My kitty had emergency intestinal surgery on the same morning. My poor husband! Anyway, my cat had a large growth which proved to be non- cancerous. The vet believes irritation from a huge ball of fur caused the problem. He's fine today!

purz59 I'm almost 6 months out from my RNY and I'm nauseous almost every time I eat anything. Some days I wake up nauseous. It's very frustrating. I figured I'd follow all the rules and I'd feel fine, but this has not been the case. I have never vomited or had diarrhea. It's just this horrible, ongoing nausea. On a positive note, I've lost about 100 lbs.since the day of my bypass and I have no cravings.

Wow beachgal2935 I hope I can be half as creative on my pre-surgery phase. I'm anxious to get started. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
