Ladies over 50 - bypass

Recommended Posts

Where's all the over 50's people. What's going on out there. I am progressing from Clear Liquids to soft foods today. Hooray ! Can't wait to eggs. Cottage cheese. Yogurt. All the things I had no idea I would miss. Plus if I choose to I can purée other foods like chicken or beef. Doesn't sound appetizing to purée meats. But hey, maybe I will try it. Others have suggested baby food while I'm on puréed foods. I can't imagine baby food tasting good. I think it would be oh so bland and watery. If anyone has suggestions, please share. Good luck to all.

@@nancynew Try the quiche - it's delicious! I had it with Deitz & Watson uncured applewood smoke ham today. It's got your eggs, moist meat, gooey cheeses and soft veggies. What more could you want - LOL! I bought 3 jars of baby food and when I opened one the smell grossed me out. I don't know how my son ever ate it. If I'm going to eat such a small amount of food, I want it to be the tastiest food it can be!!!

That's what I am thinking , just the smell or consistency of baby food will gross me out. I agree if I can Abe small amount of food , better be really good food. Have not tried the quiche yet because still on my liquid post op diet until Tuesday. Then to soft or puréed foods. When I can eat regular food , def gonna make the quiche.

Hope your feeling better today @@nancynew! I tried the quiche yesterday @@beachgal and it is really good! My non WLS hubby loved it too! :) Thanks for the recipe. I'm 20 days out from surgery today and am doing pretty well. I still get tired pretty quickly and am dealing with arthritis pain since I can't take NSAIDS anymore. Tylenol just doesn't work as well as Aleve did. I spoke to the surgeon's office today and they cleared me to go back to the gym for aerobic exercise, treadmill, eliptical, etc... no weights for 6 weeks though. Hopefully that will help me stretch out some and relieve some of the pain also.

I totally underestimated the amount of pain I would be in due to arthritis after stoping NSAIDS. I did some research and found that Cymbalta, which is an anti depressant, has had some success with OA and fibromyalgia. My PCP agreed to prescribe it and within two days the results were remarkable. I have been on the lowest dose for one month and quite pleased. It is an extended release which typically is not helpful for RNY patients but many are reporting success.

@@recordsmom So glad you tried and liked the quiche :D I made it with Deitz & Watson uncured applewood smoked ham last Saturday and it's my favorite by far. The ham is juicy and much easier to chew to a liquid consistency. The chicken seems to be a bit too dry. Sorry to hear about your arthritis pain. I had a stroke the day before Thanksgiving 2013 and was left with a debilitating nerve condition on my right side. Pain meds don't work but I take membrane suppressants Lyrica and Gabapentin 3 times per day and will for the rest of my life. Let me just say, they taste disgusting in my applesauce but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! Have you ever tried Enbrel? Hope your pain subsides soon.

I'll try the ham next time I make it. I used frozen chicken strips that were precooked and chopped them up pretty fine.

I haven't tried Enbrel. I left a message with my PCP this morning and asked about options for pain relief. Hopefully he will get back with me soon.

I turned 60 last August and had my surgery March 24, 2015 and am down 37 lbs since surgery and 51 lbs pre surgery. I wondered too why it took me so long, but I am so happy I did it, I feel better now than I have in a very long time.

Hi everyone, I am a 58 year old Canadian, I am 9 months post-op RNY. It has been an incredible journey, wish I had done it years ago. It is not easy but oh so worth it .

My therapist keeps warning me that after losing so much weight I'm going to look a LOT older due to wrinkles, sagging skin, etc. since I'm 53. Just wondering how much sagging others of you have had, if losing "only" 100 lbs. I know people losing 150-200 lbs or more are bound to have a lot of extra skin, but I am really hoping not to need plastics. And I don't mind some wrinkles, but am I suddenly going to look 65?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
