I am about to be sleeved on April 16th. I have gone totally inward the past couple years as I have gotten bigger and bigger. I have been Di miserable, that I have stopped going out in public unless absolutely necessary. My misery has rubbed off on my family as I am sometimes very short tempered with them. Would love to hear from those who know how your mental outlook and relationships changed post op

I understand what you are going through. Just know that with this process of weight loss surgery things will come up that you have to deal with and change. I'm thankful for the weight loss but I'm even more thankful to have a happy and positive out look on life again.

Relationships have been improved. I date my husband again. I take my kids to the gym and outdoor activities. I take time to talk to strangers. When you are feeling good and are in a better place mentally people respond to you in a more positive way. There will always be people who want to tear you down. I just choose to keep my positive high and keep positive people around me.

Good Luck on your upcoming surgery!!

For me my outlook has changed completely! Where before I was just a spectator to my life, always watching others doing, always from the sidelines or from home because I didn't go. I know it affected my husband and my daughter.

Now almost 6 months out I am loving life and I AM A PARTICIPANT in my life again. No more sidelines for me. I am doing stuff, I am going places and I love it. My family has noticed and they love it. We took a vacation to Disneyland at the end of March and I logged betweent 18-22000 steps daily. I went on every ride and we had a blast. Our last family vacation before that was to Universal and that time I sat on benches while my husband went on rides with my daughter.

Don't worry, things will change for you after WLS. You will be amazed how things will change!!

And now, my friend, it is time to make friends with...YOU! See you from the OUTSIDE looking in...what I mean is this: Imagine you are looking at yourself, as if in a dream. You can see yourself moving about, doing things..... Now see the INNER you. The REAL you! For the REAL you is NOT your body, it is your heart, your soul! And it is a beautiful thing! Separate the two, body...soul. Love the soul, work on the body.

The surgery on the 16th is just the beginning of your new life! Your family loves you, the real you. The surgery will help your body "bloom"! With tender loving care, it will become what you have only dreamed about before. Like any garden, it will need tending; pruning, weeding out of bad thoughts AND bad habits. It will need LOTS of watering, it will need proper nourishment. It will need you to get rid of the "pests" that will devour it and destroy it (bad thoughts, nasty people). With hard work and diligence, you will get rid of the thorns that have made your life miserable to this point. And like any vine, it will need SUPPORT! You have come to the right place! Good luck to you friend, and all the best.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
