I am 9 months out and I am finding that eating is a chore. My tastes have changed which I am grateful about but I am finding that I have to force myself to eat.

Anyone else feeling this way? I read that some WLS patients are at a higher risk of trading one eating disorder for another....overeating for anorexia. A woman in my support group actually developed anorexia.

My best friend had anorexia and O got to experience that madness first-hand and it scares the living day lights out if me. I feel like I am on the verge of becoming anorexic because I just get so anxious about eating. I stop as soon as I feel full, stick to the rules 99% of the time....I just hate the feeling of food in my stomach. I have struggled with anxiety...nuclear strength anxiety....my whole life so the rational side of me is reminding me to realize this issue is probably because of anxiety. But it's still very difficult to deal with.

Any thoughts, similar feelings, advice etc is appreciated.

This may be related to your anxiety, however, there are some people that lose the sense of hunger and never get it back or get it back at a much later time.

My opinion: Make it work for you. View eating like brushing your teeth or showering- something that is done as normal body maintenance. Would you stop brushing your teeth because you don't like the brush? Of course not.

Good luck!

Thank you! I am always grateful to hear pov. I struggle to be mindful so I thank you for your support!

Best wishes to you!

I still enjoy food, but not with the same urgency I did pre-op. I eat about every two hours and enjoy eating, but I can easily forget to eat if I'm really busy.

I, too, hate the full feeling I used to crave. When I have one bite too many, I am miserable for hours. I have found it's better for me to eat lots of mini meals instead of three "regular" meals.

I eat tiny bites, chew well, and rarely eat more than 1/2 cup at a sitting.

For me it actually it started prior to surgery when I cut back the amounts I ate. It got progressively harder after surgery. I am a little more than 10 mos out and whip I can definitely eat more now compared to say 2 mos ago, I still get full fast. Eating is a chore. Lol

I feel your pain!! I am almost 14 weeks post op and couldn't care less if I ever eat again. I am so afraid that I will stretch my pouch that I can hardly eat. So far today (it is almost 10:00pm where I am) I have had a Protein Shake, 1/4 of an apple, a Melba toast with a bit of Peanut Butter on it and 3 small bites of a casserole my husband made (it is my favourite one and he made it in the hopes of enticing me to eat. It didn't work). My hair is falling out like crazy and the scale has stopped moving. I think it's been at least 4 days since my last bowel movement.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
