kimpossible67 608 Posted April 11, 2015 I don't go to the gym, I don't do Zumba, I've been invited to yoga but I don't understand yoga. I don't see how relaxing and deep breathing is suppose to get you in shape. Then came youtube. I was in the privacy of my best friend's house and her girls are following a beginner's video. I gave it a go. It's HARD! Holy cow! I walk miles and miles a day both on a treadmill and outside. I do floor exercises, stretches, crunches, etc. Yoga kicked my ass. I'm just too high strung I think. I need high energy music as close to my eardrums as possible. So I've been flirting with memories of when I was a teen and danced for a handful of years. I googled ballet positions and a beginners warmup/excercise. It eventually came back to me. I look forward to the rock hard calves I once had! I'm certainly much stiffer than I was at 18 but I felt so good I could physically do it.
SeahawksFan 444 Posted April 11, 2015 I used to never do yoga because I felt like it was a waste. I mean if I am going to invest 45 min - an hour I need to sweat and burn calories. But now that I am 45 I do it at least once or twice a week. It really helps balance all the high intensity and high impact with stretching and balance. I really enjoy it now. It makes me feel so much better. I still haven't bought into to the meditation and relaxation part. Good luck- LA
Debbieduck4 399 Posted April 11, 2015 I've been just like you my whole life when it comes to yoga... I've tried it multiple times and each time felt bored, frustrated, and come away thinking that it was a waste of my time. I like workouts with heart pumping music... Then 3 weeks ago a friend asked me to come with her to Yoga before going for coffee and I reluctantly agreed (inside my head I was gagging UgHH!) ... but I went and I'm not sure why, but it was literally the best thing that has ever happened to me! The music was so soothing. The stretching felt ahhhmazing! The poses were difficult enough to build a sweat and I obviously used muscles I haven't used in years because I was actually sore for two days afterwards haha! I came away from that class with a workout, a sense of calm, and a whole new appreciation for yoga. I've been back twice now and plan to keep going! Maybe it's just the right season in my life I don't know... Thanks for the idea of youtube videos... I'm going to check those out too!

My hips don't actually hurt but I can "feel" their presence. I did like the end when you just stretched out and stayed still and did relaxing breathing but the rest of it I was pouring sweat! I was going to do some yard work but it hurts.

Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted April 11, 2015 Tai Chi is also a great workout. It looks deceptively easy but is also great for balance and your core.
