Insurance approved today! Set for May 21st! Anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I just got the call that my insurance approved today and my surgery is set for May 21. I just got finished with vacation so from here on my new life is about to begin. I kind of had my "fat funeral" on vacation. Didn't go crazy, just ate what ever I wanted knowing it would be the last time in a long time. I'm an emotional binge eater too so I'm most worried about that when stress becomes a factor. Looking for some other people going on this journey at the same time so we can support and encourage each other. My husband had the lap band in 2007, which hasn't worked for him long term. He is urging me to do this because he feels it will be better results than the band. He wants to be sleeved to but insurance won't approve the revision because his band isn't problematic. So nervous, excited and scared all at once. I'm 5'7, 250lbs. Can't wait for this!

Hi,

I'm scheduled for May 18th! Very close to your date. Like your husband, I have the band, but luckily mine is problematic enough that it's a medical necessity to have it removed. I start my pre-op diet on the 4th, the same day as my pre-op appt. I must say that I'm nervous yet excited about the journey. I'm nervous because I've been through this WLS journey before with the expectation of full success, but I only achieved half the results I was hoping for. I'm trying to have a more positive outlook this time, hoping to finally achieve my dream!

Hi there Dream125,

My husband just told me today thar he had a customer come in to his store who just had the band to sleeve done 6 weeks ago who said it was such a big difference. He already lost 50lbs! Best wishes to you on achieving your dream! Sounds like you're headed in the right direction! To support me as well as get healthy himself, my husband is going to refill his band and give it another shot since he has no other options. Maybe since we'll be doing it together it will work better for him this time. He lost about 50lbs total 7 years ago but then never went to get it adjusted and just gained it all back.

I'm May 19th! So excited, nervous, then excited, scared, anxious, all wrapped up into one!

Haha! My feelings exactly!

Good luck to everyone about to start their pre-op diet. I've lost 10 lbs within the last month just by cutting out carbs, alcohol and almost all caffeine. I am most surprised that I don't miss coffee! I'm starting 2 shakes a day and a light meal until two days prior to surgery when I go to all clear liquid. Jumping in with both feet now!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
