starrlighter 0 Posted October 27, 2004 I read today that thryoid problems could cancel me from being a canadiate for surgery. Does anyone know anything about this? I have a low thyroid. My appt with Dr Spivak is not until Nov 18. Thanks, Starrla
New Hope 37 Posted October 27, 2004 Starla, why don't you call Dr. Spivak's office (713-520-8900) or (866-4spivak) and ask them about your thyroid? Shirley is the office manager and she's very knowledgable. I know Alexandra (here on LBT) takes thyroid meds. Maybe she can answer your ?? Best of luck to you! Alexandra 55 Posted October 27, 2004 Starrla, I think *uncontrolled* low thyroid might be a contraindication for surgery, just like *uncontrolled* high blood pressure would be. But if you are hypothyroid and are taking the right medications for it, that shouldn't be a problem at all. When I had my surgery I'd been on Synthroid for a little over a year and my TSH levels were fine.
~c~ 1 Posted October 27, 2004 I have a low thyroid and a goiter from being undiagnosed for so long. My doctor cannot get a proper level. She keeps bumping the meds up, then it gets hyper, then back down only to become hypo again. For sure it's frustrating but i cannot see why this would cancel you as a candidate? Good luck!!
