Ok I found one I could tolerate prilosec. Stomach is turning around 100% must of been all the acid hurting me when I ate.

Glad you are doing better!

I was given an rx for pepcid twice a day and told to also take tums for the first 6 weeks.

This is me, too. The 1000 mg of Tums is for Calcium rather than heartburn, though.

Tums are calcium carbonate and post-op we do better with calcium citrate. You should ask your nutritionist about switching to something like Citrical.

Pre-op I was on Tums for calcium as well, but post-op I was told to switch for better absorption.

I was given a liquid called carafate to coat my stomach 2x a day no drinking eating an hour before or after. Then Prilosec for 1 year.

And I have not had any acid issues since surgery january 26th!

I was unsure what the carafate was for! I have it too an am taking it four times a day (surgery 4/8)...

So it is to coat our stomach? To aid in healing I guess?

My surgeon prescribes a PPI for the first two months post-op to every single sleeve patient. Acid issues post-sleeve are incredibly common.

It's also to prevent acid/heartburn. If left unchecked this can lead to stomach ulcers. Since it is fairly common for bariatric patients to have issues with acid, even if one didn't have an issue with acid prior to surgery, some doctors prescribe it more as preventative care.

I am 18 months post op and I STILL take Protonix daily. My doctor keeps refilling so I keep taking. I did not have issues with acid reflux or anything pre op. I do know if I forget to take the Protonix for a couple days ( like over a weekend) I start to feel sort of sick to my stomach. It is pretty inexpensive (for generic) so I have no issue with continuing it. Just part of my daily routine with Vitamins and such.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
