I'm two weeks today away from my surgery date. I am so nervous it makes me sick to my stomach. I can't shake the bad feelings. I'm so proud and excited with what I have accomplished so far and am so excited to see the end results but I am so scared to be put to sleep. I keep thinking like what if I don't wake up? :(

Oh, I hope you start to feel better about this. There is no doubt that this is serious business, but if you are seriously concerned about this, you need to talk with your surgeon so he/she can explain exactly what goes on, and what you can expect. If you're a person of faith, you always have that to rely on. It carries me through EVERYTHING. And I've had 22 - TWENTY-TWO surgeries. You will have a very peaceful sleep. You will wake from that sleep without remembering anything. You will have pain. It hurts to heal. Bottom line. There is always a chance of complications, and in virtually every aspect of life there are risks.

The way I look at is this way: Yes, I can be nervous about it, by WHY not wait to be nervous until right before the event, and save myself some unnecessary stress? And by then I have realized that it is not as worrisome as I had previously thought. Hey, these guys know what they are doing, they've had how many years of experience? Who am I to question their ability at this? Do I trust my heavenly Father to bring me through this?

Good questions to ask yourself, as well. Come here for any questions, someone is bound to answer! You are NOT alone in this! Good luck to you, sweetie, and all the best...

I haven't had as many surgeries as @@CanyonBaby, but I've had my fair share including a 4 day medically induced coma. My view is that I am relatively healthy and I've done everything to comply with the doctor's request. There is no medical reason why I wouldn't wake up. Besides I got things I wanna do! ;)

Just practice relaxing and staying focused on what you need to do. You'll be fine.

I really feel you. I was terrified of being put under. I know I drove everyone in my life crazy leading up to my surgery because I was 100% convinced I wasn't going to make it. I even didn't renew my AAA membership because I figured I'd die :o

I talked to my surgeon and asked him how many sleeve patients he'd ever lost. None. I talked to the anesthesiologist and asked how many patients he'd lost. None. I saw how this surgery has no more higher rate of mortality than any other and I started feeling better.

You're going to be better than okay. You're going to be awesome and on your way to being healthier.

I had my surgery Monday (3 days ago) and I was a little nervous because the last time I had surgery I was 6 and they took out my tonsils. I had never been intubated before and I just wasn't sure what to expect. I just kept reminding myself that I'm pretty healthy other than the obesity. I complied with all the surgeon's recommendations and everything went really well. I'm feeling pretty good overall. The pain was completely manageable. I took some of the prescription pain meds yesterday at noon, and a couple of doses of Children's Tylenol since then. Honestly for me the most annoying part was that my mouth was really dry and my throat was sore. Both are fine now.

I'm sure you have done your research leading up to such a big decision and you will be fine. Everything I read said that the risks of the procedure are less than the risks of obesity long-term.

Good luck!

Natasa. ..Hatawa. hi all, I am new to this group. Today is my 2nd day if surgery

I had it yesterday. I prayed to Jesus of Praga and the virgen Mary of the Mystic Rose and it has been awesome. Some discomfort but al bearable. I was super nervous as well right before surgery. It's normal. I didn't get the hiatus hernia surgery. That would cause some pressure in your chest. I use a lot of alow breathing and exhaling. Everyone go for it and pray to Jesus with faith and all will go well. Amen

@nicolenathe. This is normal to feel afraid. Ask your doctor I'd they have access to the EMMI videos to help you learn about anesthesia, also practice slow deep breathe maybe get together with a yoga instructor to guide you. Pray and you will be fantastic

You have a much greater of chance of dying if you are obese and don't lose weight. I am 7 months out. It's a brand new world. I wish I had done this years ago!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
