canes2015 23 Posted April 8, 2015 Hi everyone! Today I started Purée Phase. I was excited this morning, but it's so hard to eat slowing. My nurse told me to get a baby spoon that that would help me with bite size! I had stage 2 baby food with seasoning and my pouch hurts a little. A friend told me its because I ate it too fast! Don't know how much slower I am going to eat. Had cottage cheese for Breakfast and super hard to chew it to applesauce texture. How should I proceed! Thanks
LisaLouBop 181 Posted April 8, 2015 I still struggle with this.
della street 213 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm 10 weeks post-op bypass -- it does get easier, but for me at least, required full concentration on chewing. I've had to tell my husband to be aware that I need to chew-chew-chew because sometimes he'd ask me a question and when I didn't reply immediately, he'd ask again and again -- I now hold up my hand and point to my chewing-away-jawbone ) One time I ate a Greek yogurt too fast, and my pouch hurt, too. I knew I hadn't eaten anything 'bad' -- just too fast ( Not much help for you, sorry - but I do sympathize
canes2015 23 Posted April 9, 2015 No, thank you. I need to slow down! It hard to change old habits????
onmywaytobeingfound 163 Posted April 9, 2015 There's an app called food timer. I used it a lot when I was introducing semi solids and solids back into my diet. You can set it for however long between bites and it'll alert you when to take the next one. Good luck on your journey!
canes2015 23 Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks, am going to give it a try!
goodnuff 239 Posted April 9, 2015 Another app, Eat Slower. I set it for 2 minutes and chew between 20-30 seconds, take a new bite when the timer goes off. I found tasting spoons and forks on Amazon. Don't overload them and you'll do much better. My doctors instructions were to eat 2 oz at a time, just saw my Nut yesterday and she said, "Your pouch knows volume not weight. Use a 1/4 cup to measure all foods." Makes sense. Yikes, the amount for some foods is much less. I have not had any pouch pain so I was worried that I'd stretched it, she assured me I didn't in the short amount of time I was "over-eating" Good luck! canes2015 23 Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks you! I will check out the app! I just just got baby spoons, I think those would work!
Kimberly Bouche-Perez 48 Posted April 12, 2015 I use a shrimp fork and a baby spoon still. 22 months after surgery. Once you have pouch pain trust me, you will eat very slow after that. It is a learning progress and you will get the hang of it. Good luck
Sweetjess602 12 Posted April 14, 2015 How long does your pain last if you eat too fast? Minutes or hours?
canes2015 23 Posted April 14, 2015 My pain last minutes. I stop eating when that happens.
Red0413 53 Posted April 17, 2015 This may be a silly question, but will we always have to chew our food so well or is there a point where we will be able to eat like before surgery?
