Pregnancy after rouxen y

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery last June. I'm at my goal weight and I've lost 85 pounds. My weight has been stable for 4 months. Starting in June my doc says it's safe to try and get pregnant. I'm sure I can take enough Vitamins to keep the baby and myself nourished. How did your weight gain go? And of course I'm curious how the weight loss will go after I have the baby. Any stories or advice?

I had my surgery in July 2010. I became pregnant in September 2011 (unplanned) and after 5 months pregnant, I had a miscarriage. My surgeon told me that was not uncommon and part of the reason they recommend you wait at least two years. The five months I was pregnant were awful. I couldn't eat, had nausea and vomiting all day.

Even with birth control, I quickly became pregnant again only 6 weeks after my miscarriage. I couldn't believe it. I really didn't believe that I would stay pregnant because of what happened with the first one. I couldn't eat, was horribly anemic...just sick all the time. I gained nine pounds the whole pregnancy and that wasn't until after the 7th month. I had a healthy beautiful baby girl in January of 2013. Within a day of having her, the sickness was gone and suddenly I could eat again. I hadn't really eaten anything substantial in over 15 months! I didn't gain weight right away but eventually gained 40 pounds (of the over 100 I had lost) and have had a very hard time getting it off again.

Yes, thank you for sharing your experience. I'm so sorry you went through all of that. My first two pregnancies I threw up around the clock for 40 weeks and it was miserable. I am concerned about the nutrients for the baby and weight gain. I have an appointment with my bariatric surgeon next week to talk about my specific situation. Were hit able to eat enough before you got pregnant and then it stopped? Or were you not getting enough yet even before getting pregnant?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
