goodnuff 239 Posted April 8, 2015 I'm 3 weeks post- RNY, 2 weeks post adhesion release for a bowel obstruction. I'm limited to walking right now, which is fine because it's my favorite form of activity. I thought I got nauseated on a two mile walk a few days ago because I forgot to take Water with me. It took hours to recover. The next day I drank plenty of Water during my walk, still got nausea but it didn't last as long. Saw my Nut yesterday and she feels I may be doing too much at once. Did 4 one mile walks yesterday and was fine. Today, I slowed it down a bit but tried 1.5 miles because I won't have time for 4 walks. Nausea is back, it's kind of really frustrating. Ok, I just wanted to rant.
AvaFern 3,516 Posted April 8, 2015 Is it hot where you live? It was about 90 degrees where I live yesterday and after a 3 mile walk I felt kind of crummy for awhile too. Even if you are fully hydrated the sun can contribute to making you sick, especially when you are not on regular food yet, still recovering from a major surgery, and possibly not fully recovered from all the drugs and anesthesia. Stick an ice pack in the back of your sports bra or somewhere near the core of your body. It will melt all over you by the time you're done, but it will keep your core temp down and you may not get sick.
goodnuff 239 Posted April 8, 2015 Not hot yet. 70's the other day and cloudy and cool today. My Nut had a good theory that walking pulls blood away from your core to your extremities and that healing requires extra blood flow and nausea is my body's way of saying, "slow down". I hate when my body and mind don't agree!
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted April 9, 2015 Are you taking some sort of snack with you? Almonds or a Protein Bar? Maybe some watered down Gatorade? I get nauseated when my sugar drops, maybe that's happening to you.
goodnuff 239 Posted April 9, 2015 Hmm, that's a thought. I have to remember my body is different now. I'm still on soft foods, maybe a string cheese. Thanks. Btw, @@LipstickLady I stalked all of your posts in the last week. Funny, inspiring and good advice...I'm kind of jealous.

BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted April 10, 2015 I was going to recommend the same thing. I always bookend my workout with Protein. If I'm up super early (rare) I eat scrambled eggs. Most days I make a large Protein Drink (20 -24 ounces). I can drink that before, during and after my workout. It gives me the fuel I need but isn't too heavy on my belly. It also helps keep me hydrated.
