Hello,

My name is Pat and I had a Sleeve gatrectomy on March 11th. The good news is I'm down 45 pounds, the bad news is I feel like crap. For the last 7 days I have had a constant sour and unsettled stomach. I have no appetite and I'm even having trouble drinking Water without my stomach feeling unsettled. Exercised this morning but hard to do when you feel like you have a slight stomach flu all of the time. Dr. office put me on Carafate and Prilosec but doesn't seem to be helping much.

I am new to this forum stuff and not sure if this is the appropriate way to ask for feedback, but if anyone out there has any, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am concerned that this is not normal for post surugery and I am really concerned that my tradeoff off for losing weight is constantly feeling like crap. Am I losing my mind? I have been looking around and can't find any feedback of people experiencing these symptoms.

Again, any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pat

You're not losing your mind. Why not give your doctor a call and see if they can prescribed something other than the meds they currently have you on or if they need to adjust the amounts. Not everyone has ongoing tummy issues, but it's not uncommon either.

Are you taking the Carafate and the Prilosec at the same time? Carafate can cause problems with absorption of other meds, particularly PPI drugs like Prilosec. The way you describe feeling is pretty much how I feel if I go without my PPI for 2 or more days.

Call your doctor. I have had the same feeling off and on since March 2nd . Some days I'm okay others I just want to stay in bed.

I take a Prilosec in the morning and another one in the evening. The one a day wasn't cutting the acid for me. My Dr said to up it to 2 a day for the first several months, that did the trick! After 2-3 months I am to cut back to one a day and see how that goes. Honestly, there have been several days that I forgot to take it and I didn't have any issues like I was having that first week.

Contact your Dr. He may be able to switch your PPI or change the dosage... it should be an easy fix, and you shouldn't have to suffer with this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
