Does FMLA kick in after you have used all over your days, or is that short term disability? I haven't been with my company for 12 months yet and I was reading where it stated FMA is for someone who has been with the company for 12 months....so I am kinda unsure. I do have 3 weeks of vacations I just didn't want to use that up. Maybe I will take a week and a couple of days.

Thanks for all of your feedback!!!!!

FMLA is 12 months OR 1250 hours. If you work full time, the 1250 hours comes quicker.

I am taking two and half weeks but can/will take more if I need to (self-employed). My doctor will not excuse for more than 4 weeks unless there are major complications.

I took 2wks off and applied for FMLA as well. I'm not sure if I'll need the full 2wks or the extended leave, but thought I'd better put in just in case.

I'm having mine on a Monday, and will be back at work that Sunday. But I only work 4hr shifts.... So there is that.

If you have to go back quickly just take it easy. And rest as soon as you get home.

I'm taking two weeks off, per my company's medical leave policy and the doctor's advice. I'm in pretty good shape, minus the weight, so I'm hoping recovery will be fairly quick and that I can get back to work on time.

Thanks!

I am pretty much healthy also besides the weight and the majority of my day is sitting and we have been sorta slow so I am hoping at least the first week back will be slow and I can just go home and rest.

I was wondering the same thing about time off from work. I'm going to ask my doctor if he'd sign a note saying that I can come back after 2-3 days. I work in an office so I sit all day long and I never really lift anything heavy. I can't afford to miss any more time than that so I'm crossing my fingers hoping that will be ok. We'll see :D

It depends on the type of work. I teach college, so some desk, some up and around. I took 2 weeks off, but really could have used another week off in retrospect. I really didn't feel fully "myself" as far as energy until about 6-8 weeks.

I had surgery on 3/31. I am hoping my surgeon lets me back next Wednesday. I feel great and am ready (was ready last week) but I'm not drinking enough.

I initially took 4 weeks off... the day before i was set to go back to work i had to go back to my doctor because i was having terrible pain near the incision where they removed my stomach. We were all under the assumption it was an incisional hernia but thank God it was not!! Apparently just a pulled muscle. I was given an additional 2 weeks for a total of 6 But i suggest you take at least 3 of course IF you can. Not only are you physically drained but you are also on an emotional roller coaster!! Your food intake is all screwy and your body and mind don't really know what to make of it. You may also be very physically tired until you can get some more solid food in you. I think one week just inst enough for you to recover from the surgery it's self. Just FYI i'm 8 weeks out now, 34 lbs lighter and feel 100% amazing!! Good luck to you!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
