Groupon (if your familiar with it) has Quest Protein Shakes on sale all the time but it takes a couple weeks to re cieve sometimes.

----I joined but could not find Protein Drinks. I see alot of whey Protein Powder. But all kinds! Do I want muscle building, pre and post workout powder, etc. I'm more confused!

Hi there, you mentioned you were on a lot of prescriptions already. Depending on what those are for you may be off of a lot of them either right after or shortly after surgery. The list of my prescriptions was very very long pre surgery. Now I take two prescriptions, that is all!

I was able to get off of all reflux/heart burn medication, cholesterol medication, high blood pressure medication, diabetes medication and even one of my two Migraine prevention medications. I am actually ahead now in terms of costs as it relates to prescriptions. I buy my Vitamins from costco for the most part and on some I wait for the buy one get one deals at Walgreens.

I do the same with my Protein drinks which are ready made. They are called Premier Protein and you can get them at Costco 2 cases for the price of 1. You just have to watch for them to go on sale and then stock up.

Also my food bill went down drastically so it all evens out in the end. Take a deep breath and try to to let anxiety get the best of you.

Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!

--- I'm on alot of psychology meds, don't think they'll go away due to RNY. / My husband, who does all the cooking, doesn't seem to think we'll save enough to make a difference. IDK. / I'm trying to keep my cool, but the unknown always worries me. I'm sure I'll be better tomorrow. Thanks!

That might still be open. You'll need your doctor's prescription but it's good to know if it's covered

I'm going to agree with the savings on food. Unless you only eat 1/4-1/2 cup of food 2-3 times a day now you will definitely save.

Also, I would agree on the not stocking up on Protein powders. There's no knowing what your new tummy will like/tolerate after surgery.

My Nut did the cost per day to get every Vitamin you need per day through Bariatric Advantage. The Advanced Multivitamin chewable (2/day)or the ultra multi (3/day) and 3 of the 500 mg Calcium chewy bites is less than $4.00/day. I don't know your current food vices, Starbucks was mine, but that's less than I was spending there.

Good luck!

Thanks everybody, it's so nice to know so many of you want to help! I saw my LPN and NUT yesterday, my surgeon only requires one day of full liquids, any kind of clear, the day before surgery. And the NUT showed me three Protein choices that her ppl got from Wal-Mart that if you don't like it you can return it for a full refund. Now that's cool! I lost 10% of my body weight. My nutritional panel was "perfect". I see the surgeon in two weeks. He expects more weight loss, NO gain. Sounds ok. So, I'll know in 2 weeks when my date is. But man, I hate this wait.

Keep up the great work. Don't sweat the small stuff (and it's all small stuff) stressing yourself out will only throw you into the arms of the our demon lover junk food. Lol we are here to help you a and if you really want it you can do it. I had my surgery March 2nd And I am down 55 lbs from the first day I walked in the dr office 8 months ago after jumping hoops and going thru the 2nd worst year of my life. I lost 25 on my own and the rest since my surgery. If I can do it anyone can. I don't wanna die fat sad and miserable. I know your situation isn't ideal but my new motto is you have to but the air mask on you before you can help anyone else. Like they tell you on airplanes where cabin pressure drops. Your no good to anyone dead or incapacitated. If your having a hard time moving kick you feet while sitting. Lift your arms in the air with cans of Beans just to get a little muscle tone. I've got another 130 lbs to go so I'm far from where I want /need to be but I'm not going down without a fight. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need a pep talk.

First I would like to say that you came to the right forum for help, take a deep breath you got this , congrats on your choice to being healthy and I agree with the above statements your current medications you will either decrease that bill or those illness will disappear after you have the surgery. There are alternatives to those expensive Vitamins that you are referring to and when I first started i paid over $200.00 the first month and stock up on unjury and didnt even use it because my taste buds change after surgery resulting with me seeking out alternatives Protein, and I love premiere Protein shakes that you can by at Sams Club , cosco and other venders. Do not stock up on Protein Shakes because your taste buds will change. Good luck you got this and get us posted.

I love bariatricpal, been involved for years! You all are so interesting, informative and caring! As for getting off meds as a result of weight loss, I doubt I will because they're for psychiatric issues. Unless someone has heard of that happening with psych meds. I'm also on quite a few meds for insomnia. Will wks affect that?

My NUT said the Protein powder @ Wal-Mart is 20.00 a tub, for one of 'em. The fact that they let you return it helps alot! How much is whey Protein Powder, not isolate, cost @ Sam's?

People say not to stock up cuz my taste buds will change. But I have yet to try one! It's all post op for me and my Protein. Would that advice still apply?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
