Preop weight keeps fluctuating app today at 330

Recommended Posts

Starting weight was 227 and I was able to get down to 223. Doc wants me at 220 and I've made that goal... However I fluctuate +/- 4 lbs by the day. Yesterday I was at 218... Today I'm at 222. I have my appointment today at 330... so what can I do??

Well, what have you been doing so far? Are you on a pre-op diet? If not, why not try having the Protein Shakes for your Breakfast and lunch as Meal Replacements? When you get hungry, drink tons of Water (use the water-enhancer drops, if you like). Or do some exercise for 10-15 minutes, or try to re-focus on something else. I know it's easy for me to say, but we all have to go through this at some point, and it doesn't get easier. Try eating sugar-free popsicles when you HAVE to have something, and you don't have to limit it to one. At least they let you crunch and chew. Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

@@CanyonBaby My pre op diet was taught as a construction of three meals/day 3ounces of Protein, veggies, and a few other items. I'm gonna give the gym a try... however I feel constipated but the psych paperwork asks if I've used laxatives as a weight loss option and I don't want to do that.

Are you allowed Benefiber? My NUT recommended it, and it works great for regularity. I use the Shopko brand, as it is far less expensive. Maybe call your NUT and ask, then they will know it is NOT for weight loss. And you AREN'T using it for that, so you would be honest about it. Sounds like a good pre-op plan, and don't forget the sugar-free popsicles for THOSE moments!!!

If you are constipated you can take something for that. They are concerned with people taking laxatives everyday to lose weight.

I take metamucil sometimes. You could also ask your doc for a stool softener. I also ate some prunes. It really did the trick for me.

I retain Fluid :/ hate it but anyways I was concerned also because my weight does that switches every couple days. I gave my surgeons office a call telling them my concern. Im 4 pds over and they said for me that was fine & understandable. Although I have been eating a lot of Protein, veggies & Protein Drinks this week until I see surgeon the 16th this month. Maybe talk to someone at your surgeons did see if they give a lil room for a couple pds and just try to keep low cal till your date. Best of Luck :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I went to my appointment with 1+ lbs. The psychologist said that I was doing a great job. I had a cup of coffee later that day and that was the end of constipation!! lol... I forgot about natural laxatives.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
