My surgeon recommends the Vitamins by Celebrate, so I figured I would give then a try.

I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered samples on their website, so I signed up for the sample pack.

They. Have. Arrived.

So...the Multi is 3/4" in diameter and 1/4" high. REALLY?!?! It's scary-big.

They also included some Multis that are shaped like Starburst....but they smell, well, awful.

They also included a bunch of other vitamins, as well. 19 individual items, in all.

Here's my problem: I'm afraid to try them. Based on smell alone, they MUST be horrible.

What do I do?! Are ALL of the vitamins terrible?

Have you had your surgery yet? I was told to take chewables, dissolvables, or liquids ONLY after the surgery for 8 weeks. No pills at all for 8 weeks. This included my prescription meds, which I had to crush or get in liquid form. You may have to wait to take the pills until your new tummy can handle a pill. Your NUT should be able to tell you when. Good luck to you!

I received a sample back. The chewy/caramel or starburst consistency ones weren't bad. The chalky ones? Yeah, they were nasty. I went back to swallowing after 6 weeks.

I was allowed pills of all sizes 7 days post-op. Just like with pre and post-op diets, every surgeon has their own guidelines.

I tried the Celebrate Vitamins too. I found the big ones chalky and the chewy ones had a weird aftertaste. I prefer the Bariatric fusion chewables but you have to take 4 a day. They do include Iron and Calcium though, so no need to take extra of those.

I use opurity for my Multivitamin and Calcium. They are big and chalky, but not too bad and are cheaper than a lot of others.

Everything else I take is a regular pill that i swallow.

My surgeon only had me do chewables for the 1st 3 weeks post op. I couldn't stand the bariatric chewable no matter which brand. I finally just went with flinstone chewables. After 3 weeks to the day, I switched back to my regular swallowed Vitamin (GNC Women's Ultra Mega) twice a day.

Calcium is a different story all together! I love the Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate chewables. The raspberry and lemon flavors remind me of starburst candy and actually help keep my sweet cravings at bay. The caramel flavor is also sinful. The only problem was the cost because I had to take 6 a day to meet my nutritionist's recommended amount. I now take the citracal petites, 2 pills 3 times a day. I haven't had any problems with the switch from chewable Vitamins. Definitely talk to your bariatric team and see what other choices they can recommend. You aren't the only patient turned off by the taste of the chewable. They should have other options you can try. Good luck finding what works best for you!

Almost any calcium you take, whether chewable or not, requires taking 4+ pills per day. I'm supposed to take 3 of my multis per day too, but only take 2, because it's so hard for me to work my schedule to where I can be taking pills 5 times a day (can't take calcium and multi at the same time).

Thanks everyone for chiming in - and I'm sorry I've been absent....Work has been RIDICULOUS this week.

Well, I decided to put on by big-girl panties, a give these darn Vitamins a try. I got out a knife, and just cut off a little piece of each one. Not as bad as I anticipated.

I think I'm going to try the Strawberry-Lemonade Multi (2 x day) and the Cerry Tart Calcium (3 x day). We'll see how it goes.

I know the Vitamins are important...but I've never been "good" at taking them, so I'm going to have to really commit to it, and just consider them "medication", and NOT OPTIONAL.

Again, thanks everyone for the support - it's good to know I'm not the only one out there with Vita-phobia! :)

I take the Celebrate Vitamins and I love them all! The multi I use is chewable in the grape flavor and very yummy. I look forward to taking my Vitamins everyday! I take the Calcium that you swallow. It's a little large but if I end up having a problem swallowing it I cut it in half with a pill cutter. I also have the chewable calcium that I don't care for. It's too chalky for me and I have a hard time getting it down. The Iron is small enough that I can swallow it easily. I've added Vitamin D too and it's the type that melts and it doesn't taste bad at all either.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
