2 1/2 Months Post Op and Hunger is knocking at my door?

Recommended Posts

It's been two and a half months post op and I've been feeling a lot hungry now than I have a few weeks ago.

Since my surgery, I am down 56 pounds with another 54 to go to my goal. All of a sudden, I'm feeling hungry and thinking of food all the time.

I eat no more the 1100-1200 calories a day and walk everyday about a mile and a half.

I am due for my 3rd fill later this week I just hope this helps because I'm getting scared and don't want to gain this back.

@@JoJoNYC don't worry you are doing great!! Go and get your fill and that will help you stave off the hunger. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's head hunger or actual hunger, so I try to have something to drink before I reach for the food.

Sometimes for me I really need that "comfort" feeling of something relaxing, smooth and sweet. I have found that for me a nice warm cup of coffee with some sugar free flavored Creamer works wonders.

I will have a cup when I get off the road after work before eating dinner and it helps to take the edge off of that "I NEED TO EAT SOMETHING NOW" feeling. I usually eat lunch around 12-1 and don't get back home till 6:30-7 so by then I'm right at the edge and the coffee "treat" helps so much.

I was glad I kept working closely with the surgeon for band adjustments -- as we lose weight things change. Also winter is tighter for me, etc. You are doing great and you're listening to your body. Way to go! To me the band is all about dimming the appetite. I don't keep a tight band but I need that appetite monster off of my back. That's what the band does for me and then I am in charge of making good choices.

@@lisacaron HEY IM i thinking about getting the lap band

I cannot tell you to go for it, that is a decision that has to be made within and with your doctor. For one, you have to see if your a candidate and two, it's a life changing experience.

For me, it was the best move I could have ever made. I am half way through with my Weightloss and off all my pressure, cholesterol and Water pill meds.

It was the best move I could have ever made.

@@coachk11233 the thing about Lapband is followup with the surgeon's office for fills -- I really liked that accountability (for me 11 visits in the first year, two in second). Insurance companies and hospital admin are not exactly excited about that level of patient contact. A surgeon can do a whole sleeve in the morning it takes to follow up with lapband patients, right? Follow the money. I really wanted a band, I just knew it. My whole stomach is intact and this method works beautifully for me. Good luck to you!

@@coachk11233 that's great!! I chose the Lapband for many reasons vs. the sleeve or other surgery. You got some great advice from the posters above.

No matter what surgery you choose follow up and compliance are the biggest keys to success. If your in the NY area consider stopping by one of our local support groups!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
