Band Tightening from workouts

Recommended Posts

I have been working out (mostly Cardio) the first 7 months of having the Band, I started Working with a Trainer and doing more Weight Training and have upped my Cardio. I am preparing for a 5k this weekend. But I have noticed that it seems like my band has Tightened on its own, I haven't needed a fill since January I only have a 8cc band and have about 7cc already. I am having a hard time some days keeping anything down. it is mostly mid morning that it happens but It has been kind of Worrying me and I am thinking I may need to go see my doctor and get a small unfill and see if that changes anything.

has anyone had this happen to them once they started working out more? I work out about 5-6 times a week and for about 1 1/2 hours at a time.

@@LacieC1989 yes working out can make your band feel tighter. Stress also does this to me, and woe to the person who upsets me while I am eating, that doesn't go nicely for anyone.

If you are having trouble keeping liquids down, I would say yes see the Dr. for a bit of an unfill. If you are able to tolerate liquids and then the band loosens during the afternoon evening so you can eat solid foods, then I would say ride it out. Have a Protein shake instead when your band is tight and eat when you can do so comfortably.

In the mornings my band can be tight, so I usually stick to coffee. In the evenings since I will usually hit the gym after work, my band will often cinch up along with my muscles after a work out so I'll do a Protein Shake on those days as well.

The largest meal of my day is often lunch time, depending on how the day goes.

If you are having trouble or getting stuck and not able to tolerate fluids then give your Dr. a call and take out some Fluid even .1 cc can make a big difference.

Let us know how your doing.

I am not hungry in the mornings and am definitely tighter. I wait until midday when I get a signal that it's time for me to have something to eat. We are all different but maybe that's helpful to you. And congratulations on upping your physical activity and the 5K.....way to go.

I've been exercising very regularly since surgery over 4 years ago, concentrate on cardio and am now running 3-5 miles to get my heart rate in the Zone....

I also do weights, and all kinds exercises for the abdomen that is hard to explain.

One is, I lay prone on the floor (mat) And with my legs straight out and stiff, I slowly raise my legs up and over and touch the floor with my toes behind my head...keeping my legs straight and stiff. Then SLOWLY return my legs back to a full prone position, most time holding them 6" off the ground. And that's just one thing I do.

Suffice it to say my stomach takes some punishment.

I also started to do Yoga, not much, but I started and want to get more involved as I get better......

As a side note, I'm one that does not believe a band gets tighter and looser as the day goes on, etc...I believe it is something else entirely...but saying it gets tight is a term everyone understands so I use it also....

It's also true with people using the term "Vomiting" with the band...not true, but it is easier to understand and gets the message across.

Anyway, my point is, with everything that I do, I have never experienced a difference with my band......

As my stomach got harder and shrank, my port hurt like heck....but my Dr. explained why and it was OK as long as I didn't notice any discoloring - bruising, (bleeding)

well last night I was able to eat and drink fine but I made an appointment for this morning anyways and I went in and had an xray and barium swallow. My band is good but the fluids weren't going through fast enough and we went ahead ad removed 1cc and I am already feeling much better and have drank half a muscle milk Protein shake(not my ideal choice but that's all there was at the gas station) everything Is going down much better:) always go with your gut!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
