Heard of LATE DUMPING SYNDROME?

Recommended Posts

I have discovered late dumping syndrome now.

Went to a nephew's birthday party last week and ate some cake and ice cream along with everyone else.

Few hours later at home, got to feeling very shaky, anxious, sweating profusely.

I'm not diabetic, wife has type 2 diabetes so we checked my blood sugar with her monitor and my blood sugar was at 39.

Sounds like you needed Protein really bad. My blood sugar drops really low when I dont eat enough protein. I dont have diabetes but I do have insulin resistance. I get very shaky and I have to lay down or I will tumble to the ground. Eat small meals with protein throughout the day and it will not happen again.

I have also experienced late dumping syndrome and it isn't pleasant. The horrible thing is you believe you are in the clear and have escaped with your sweet treat. The dumping waits until we forgot our transgression and have moved on to another part of our day unsuspecting of the hell waiting to get us in a few hours. I hope you were able to get through it quickly and get your sugar level back in the normal range. It definitely makes you think twice before doing that to yourself again.

I hope you were at least at home when it hit you? The first time I experienced it was at Disney World waiting for a bus back to our hotel. It was the longest bus ride I have ever had and a long race to my room hoping I made it to the toilet in time. That would have been mortifying if it broke loose on a full bus. I didn't figure out what was going on after the first time because it had been a while since I had last eaten. Everything I read about dumping syndrome made it seem as if you felt the effects pretty quickly.

I had a Ritas kiddie size sugar free Water ice the other night. I had them put a "dot" of custard on top, half of which I gave to my husband because I still thought it was too much. About 2 hours later O.M.G.!! It passed pretty quickly but it was HORRIBLE. Wont be doing that again any time soon!!

I've experienced both early onset and late dumping. It took only a few times to nail down the culprits. I have A TON of foods that piss off my sleeve. But thank goodness for muscle milk light chocolate shakes!! There have been days where those are all I "ate". I also get dizzy and severe headaches when I'm dehydrated.

One thing to keep in mind - a lot of the "sugar free" stuff out there isn't made with Splenda or Nutrasweet. It's made with sugar alcohol (manitol being a common one) - this still has calories but doesn't mess with a diabetic's blood sugar like regular sugar might. The side effect is that there's a *strong* laxative effect with too much of it. I'm 11 weeks out and have occassionally indulged in something sweet, but so far no dumping, thank goodness.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
