"lump in throat" feeling...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have had my band for almost 2 years. Things have been going well until a few months ago. I started noticing that it feels like there is something stuck in my throat, and I really need to swallow it! It can happen any time of day, and I am concerned that it is band related. I recently moved to a new state and just established care with a primary physician and mentioned it to her and she gave me the "it's all in your head" look. I've read that it could be related to reflux and that concerns me as that has never been an issue for me. I truly can feel something in the back of my throat, but no matter how many times I swallow, it won't go down. I should also mention that I have had more vomiting episodes than normal for me. I usually know when I took too big a bite, or didn't chew well enough, but lately they have been catching me off guard. I won't throw up until 15-20 min. after I'm done eating even thought it felt like everything went through fine. Has anyone else every had this issue? Any ideas what it could be? I am trying to find a new doctor here as soon as possible.

I've experienced this, especially after a fill. It sounds a little different from what you are experiencing, however. Mine is more like the food is just sitting there in my throat, and indeed it probably is, as my vocal chords are affected by it too.

It goes away after a couple of weeks, with me.

I have had similar experience after my band was tightened, and the symptoms went away after it was loosened by just a quarter of cc. When my band was too tight, i would eat something too fast or something that would typically cause acid re-flux and get that "lump in the throat" feeling. Taking anti acid helped during that time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
