RaginCajun 177 Posted April 22, 2015 My Doc also very persistent about not drinking until +1 hours after eating. No real worries about drinking before meals, in fact he tells me that may help not eating so much. The reasons not to drink, which summarize what is being said here: 1) Drinking flushes food thru the pipe (stomach to digestive tract) depicted by the YouTube Video 2) Flushing the food will reduce the amount of time food is in digestive tract, which is important for absorption of nutrients 3) Adding liquids on top of food will create discomfort and it may all come back up RC
Chanel22 19 Posted April 23, 2015 I don't drink with big meals at all anymore-it's waaay too uncomfortable & too full. I can eat all foods now-I've ate steak etc.. I've still never thrown up & hopefully I won't.

Essence46 493 Posted April 23, 2015 I am 10 months out and I still don't drink when eating. If I know I am going to eat something, I will stop drinking 20 or 30 minutes before. Drinking will fill me up too fast. Since I don't eat enough, I need all of the calories and nutrients I can get.
NewgirlfromMd 63 Posted April 23, 2015 Good visual! Thanks for sharing! I am only a month out and although I stop drinking before meals & wait after, it has been my single biggest challenge since surgery. I have always drank with meals so it is very unnatural for me. I struggle to get all my fluids in so I'm a little impatient lol! I want to get back to sipping as soon as possible. Good reminder.
