Help me deal with loved ones who won't band

Recommended Posts

Well I want to give an update on my loved ones. A year and 2 month after my banding my cousin approached me about weight loss. I was thrilled. She is starting her upteenth diet plan. She had lost 50 lbs last summer /fall and has put it back on. From 286 /236 . I gave her advice that her insurance would pay for the band and the procedure with her insurance took a year, so look into it and back out if she wanted to what would it hurt? There is also a medically supervised diet program at out local hospital and she agreed for us to go and listen about the program together in two weeks. Not sign up just listen. I was happy she came to me with her questions and wanting support. I love her and I know at 286 she is headed for diabetes like I developed.

So I will support her with exercise and suggestions because she wants it now. She approached me. NO BROW BEATING just loving help.

I know I cannot run the world but I would like to.

I remember how angry i became whenever someone with good intentions mentioned to me that I should lose weight.

It wasn't until I decided for myself that Lap-Band was the way to go that I would listen.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
