Hi: don't panic about flipped ports. When ports were anchored the doctors found a lot of ports were becoming disloged from the tubes causing numerous problems such as serious infections. Take an object and move it back and forth quickly and it will soon break. That was what was happening to anchored ports. The new proceedure is to leave the port free but place it in a pocket allowing it to move freely with the tubing. Sometimes the port will twist to the side or flip. Mine is twisted to the side with difficulty a fill can still be done. If it flipps, it is apparently an easy proceedure to be done with a local and the port is put right side up. Flipping is not too common from my research but does occur. For me, I seem to be comfortable with 5 ccs so don't see the need for more surgery at this time. No big deal. Doddie

Hi I am Bob, I have only been banded 6 weeks so I am not sure of your answer. However if you call your clinic they should be happy to answer your questions. They have been great with all my questions.

Good luck,

My port is on its side. It's been like this since my first fill. It hasn't given me any problems. Fills are very easy as the port is right at the surface.

I recently had the unfill and a re-fill to 5 cc's in my 10 cc band and I am not feel a ton of restriciton. I can pretty much eat anything and I am falling back in to my old habits of not chewing too well because for some reason I am not finding that I have to. I chew a little and swallow and I am fine nothing gets stuck at all!!!I am hoping that is not a bad sign that I am not going to be able to get good restriciton any time soon, or worse yet that there is something wrong like a slipped band?!?

Anyone else had a large unfill and then a re-fill and not get restriction, or food stuck like you used to when your band is half full???

5 cc's in a 10 cc band is really not that much, go for another fill, or two... I am at 7 in a 10 cc and I could probalby use another 1/4 cc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
