Hi,

I was just looking at flights for around that time. I'm not a 100% sure if I'm going to be going to Mexico or jumping through the insurance hoops but I'm starting to look. If you don't mind me asking why did you choose your doc? I've received a few quotes and there are so many to choose from.

Sure ! Iv been researching obsessively for a couple of months now and IMHO. Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Ramos-Kelly, Dr. Wilhmey, Dr. Corvela and Dr. Ariel Ortiz and Dr. Alvarez are the best in Mexico. I gathered this mainly from obsessively reading everything anyone had ever posted about surgeons.

From there I contacted each one to discuss my specific case as well as cost and what the packages included. A couple were scratched off right away because I am already sleeved and thought I wanted resleeved. Dr. Ortiz wanted to plicate my sleeve ..no thanks. Dr. Alvarez didn't think I would be happy with it and refused me. Dr. Corvela and Dr. Whilmey were both on board and Dr. Whilmey had the most experience with revisions but Dr. Rodriquez recommended the MGB which i NEVER thought I would even consider!! I started researching and I liked what I found. I then talked with Dr. Kelly and Dr. Illan about the procedure and both were in favor also but both combine hospital stay with hotel recovery, I liked Dr. Kelly a lot but he was about $1000 more and I'm already on the high end at $7900, all were well credentialed, well reviewed but Dr. Rod made the recommendation for the MGB, he has done over 10,000 procedures in his career and he operates out of the hospital used by the US embassy. Iv talked to a lot of others who have used him and have found no complaints at all!! I hope this helps, it was prob more than you were looking for lol ! I think if you are looking to be sleeved you can't to wrong with anyone Iv mentioned above but again prob Dr. Rod and Dr. Ramos Kelley and Dr. Wilhmey would be my number one picks !

I know Juarez isn't the safest city in the world but Iv talked to many others and Iv not heard anyone say they didn't feel safe. It's literally airport hospital airport, no stops and the hospitals is in the nicest part of town. Also it's a major mfg area for "ADC Telecommunications, Electrolux, Bosch, Foxconn, Flextronics, Lexmark, Delphi, Visteon, Johnson Controls, Lear, Boeing, Cardinal Health, Yazaki, Sumitomo, and Siemens are some of the foreign companies that have chosen Ciudad Juárez for their business operation." Drug cartels and criminal violence is actually very low on my list of concerns.

I agree its important to feel comfortable, if he was still working out of Tijuana I would prob go there but unfortunately he isn't any longer scheduling at both.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
