I have found since my bypass I have gradually become more "moody." Has anyone else experienced this?

I would be shocked if someone actually said no. In the beginning there is so much change going on that it is hard to keep up with.

I know I was very moody And even found myself crying over the most silly things. I do not normally cry. The good news is one you are on normal food and you get your routine down, it goes away. At least It did for me.

I know I'm 10 days out and a basket case! I cry at the drop of a hat and go from happy to sad to happy to mad in 10 seconds or less. Hoping this ride stops soon before my family commits me.....lol

I get asked "why are you being so bit**y?" I honestly can't answer that. I guess my body is angry because I'm not poisoning it anymore. It's part of detoxification I assume. It's extremely annoying and not my typical personality.

Hormones are stored in fat so it's logical for your emotions to be all over the place. The more fat your body releases, the more hormonal/emotional you're going to be. It's an unfortunate result of weight loss. It does get better as you progress. Pretty soon your joy of weight loss will far outweigh your emotional roller coaster ride. Hang tight and know that these spikes in your moods means you're doing the right things.

Oh good grief! Thank you for posting this!! I'm a month pre-op and been on this eating plan they want me on since December. I cry at the dumbest things and I am not a cry girl

I can only imagine after. Maybe it will be the opposite for me and I'll be cheery hahah. One can only hope. Hang in there!

Yes, I know I have been more moody lately, I am almost 5 weeks out from surgery. I am still taking my depression meds but I think it would be worse if I wasn't. I find myself wanting to cry over nothing and it's confusing. Be glad when I can be normal again

Oh nooo! I'm already a cryer-have been emotional my whole life. I'm just over a week pre-OP (May 2) and I sure hope that since you all weren't cryers before surgery that maybe I won't be after. Haha.

Two things I noticed made me moody.

The first one was the fact that I could no long console myself with foods when I was upset about something. I had to actually face emotions I use to eat away.

The second thing was once I hit Ketosis, I was spilling over with all those hormones that were stored in my fat for decades.

Both pass but I still have rough weeks every once and awhile,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
