glitter eyes 1,398 Posted April 7, 2015 Hang in there it will get better. Also, just because you can't get your Protein in early post op does not mean you are a failure. Post op I had a hard time getting my protein too. I could not tolerate the Protein Shakes and I tried many brands. I still to this day- nine months post op despise them. I just made sure I stayed very hydrated ( small sips) and I lived off Greek yogurt and strained Soups until I got to the puréed stage. From there on out you can get your protein from food instead of shakes. I used all the Protein Powder I had to make protein pancakes( once I was able to eat solid food) and I also mix it with my Greek yogurt. I get my fair life milk at my local grocery store ( Publix) it taste just like regular milk but you get the bonus of double the protein. You will be a success. Lots of luck

ssourgirl 151 Posted April 7, 2015 My daughter is going through your exact symptoms as well. She's so nauseated by drinking anything, can't find Protein she can handle without reaching for the barf bag, she can't stand Soup either. She's 12 days post op today and still has incredible nausea. I hope things get better soon for both of you! I did find that she tolerated a bit of the unjury unflavored Protein in her chai tea and the chocolate wasn't bad either. glitter eyes 1,398 Posted April 7, 2015 @ladycook9713. For my puréed stage ( let me clarify that my surgeons puréed stage included anything soft that could be chewed to applesauce consistency) : Greek yogurt Ricotta cheese bake( google "the world according to egg face" for the recipes, she has a lot of great ideas Soft white fish chewed well Soft cheeses Refried Beans ( my fav, I was able to add different things like melted cheese, gaucamole, sour cream etc. Smoked salmon chewed well Humus Soft scrambled eggs Chili chewed well Soups- I would add unflavored Protein powder I made sure to weigh and measure everything and take slow tiny bites. Have fun on the puréed stage and get creative and goggle ideas.

I think I'll go to the store later or tomorrow after my appt and get stuff for my pureed stage. I am an avocado fiend so I might live off that and eggs. I'll look up that person and check out their recipes. Thank you again!
Chrystee 838 Posted April 7, 2015 I was choking through one Protein drink a day.. it was hard to really get much down, so I was basically sipping it all day.. once I could move to softs, it is much better. and yes, I got sick of the sweet tastes.. once I could have eggs, plain greek yogurt and white fish, I was so happy.. so yes, you will get there.. 1st just make sure you are getting in your liquids/water, then focus on Proteins. jhowell 11 Posted April 7, 2015 I also take a half a cup of fat free cool whip and fold in a scoop of my Protein powder and put it in the freezer. Once it's frozen again it's like eating ice cream.

ladycook9713 442 Posted April 8, 2015 I was told to stay away from the Special K stuff bc of the sugar content.
jane13 2,256 Posted April 8, 2015 I have a co-worker who doesn't have a weight problem and he drinks Peanut Butter Greek Yogurt smoothies. I am not much of a milk fan but I did discover that mixing the PB with the plain greek yogurt was tasty!

BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted April 8, 2015 @@ladycook9713 - 9 days is still early yet. It does sometimes take time to find ways to get in Protein. It really does become a matter of trial and error. Will you have a f/u soon? Some have them a week out, others 2 weeks out. If all else fails just focus on staying hydrated and then speak with your nutritionist at your f/u appointment. Take heart, as your tummy heal this will get easier and easier.

Take heart, as your tummy heal this will get easier and easier. I had a 1 week follow up and thought things would get better once I was able to go to full liquids. Then I found that my tummy just isn't handling milk or maybe it's the sweetness. Either way I had another follow up today and have been advanced to puree/mashable stage. I'm going to go shopping this afternoon for food.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted April 8, 2015 Sounds great, I hope it helps. Just go slow and make sure everything is soft and moist.
