Hi fellow friends,

So I'm 11weeks today , 56 pounds down! Awesome right?! Well, I'm concerned. I'm not eating properly , not taking Vitamins, and I'm disgusted with the Protein Shakes. I do eat lentil and split pea Soup every day for lunch, I can each Mash potatoes , chicken, Greek yogurt and sf Jello and that's about it! How sad. eggs and tuna didn't sit well.

What suggestions do you have for me as car as to wha I should be eating at this opino. I feel great, but I know I'm not getting in all my nutrients.

Thanks buddies

You will get sick very quickly if you don't start to get proper nutrition.

I too cannot eat eggs.

If you eat yogurt, you can buy Protein granola which will also boost the Protein. It is very good. If you don't like your Protein shakes you have to find one that works for you. I use Premier Protein chocolate and it is excellent. You can get them at costco or Sam's.

No matter how much you struggle you have to take your supplements. I hate to be harsh here but you should have known what you were signing up for. There are not that many to take, you just have to do it, every single day.

Honestly sf Jello is pretty worthless. You should be at a point where you can eat fish, chicken, shrimp, cheese. These are the things most of us live on.

I wish you the best of luck and sure hope you really focus on good nutrition.

Can I ask--why are you not taking your Vitamins? This is crucial to your health. Not for weight loss but for your health. It is not optional. Are you just against taking Vitamins? Do you not like the flavors? Even though I'm a year out, I still prefer the chewables because it takes the edge off in the morning before Breakfast.

It's ok to not like eggs. Not everybody does. But you should be focusing on lean proteins--chicken, fish, shell fish, yogurt, cottage cheese, that sort of thing.

I live on the Dannon Light and Fit greek yogurts. It's 80 calories and delish! It's usually my mid morning snack and sometimes my mid day snack.

Also, it is very important to keep a food journal. It's magical how just writing down what you eat helps you focus and lose weight. Write down what you eat, or better yet, write down what you WILL be eating for the week and follow it. Track Protein grams (forget about calories!!). Also, track your mood with your meals. That's really important, too.

Best of luck.

Not taking Vitamins is life threatening and frankly inexcusable. If you can't swallow them or are vomiting then talk to your doc. If they simply taste bad...suck it up and take them anyway. You will pay in so many ways if you don't. Look up recipes for gastric bypass...there are tons out there. I have gotten over a hundred just on pin-interest. Try new things, experiment. You are in danger of setting yourself up to return to old habits. Take charge!

Immediately after surgery, the 3 most important requirements are Protein, Vitamins and fluids. These are key. food is secondary, especially because the volume of food is very limited in the beginning. Your body is converting your stored fat into energy that drives you body. As a result you are losing weight.

In my opinion most of the Protein shakes taste terrible. But it is very important that you take in the required protein each day. As time goes on and your meal volume increases, you can gain most of your protein from your meals, provided you consume high protein meals. But that is not the stage you are in, so experiment and find the Protein Shakes that you can tolerate. There are a wide variety of powder and premix protein shakes available. For me Muscle Milk Light powder mixed with a half a banana in a Ninja single serving size blender worked well. Your protein requirement is a combination of the protein you consume from meals combined with the protein from supplements (protein shakes, protein bars).

It is equally important that you take in the required amount of fluids each day. I use to like to drink a glass of Water with ice cubes several times a day prior to surgery. But that changed after the operation. After surgery, I found that flavored water (Crystal Light) was good. Also I began drinking fine teas. The Fluid requirement is the total amount of fluids that you take in each day. It included the fluids you consume in your protein shakes.

It is also equally important that you meet your Vitamin requirement. Your body does not convert food into the essential Vitamins that you need. That is why you must use supplements.< /p>

In the area of foods, I found that Soups and chili went down easier. Therefore that is what I used. I wanted to get off the protein shakes as soon as possible, so I made my own Soups and chili with about twice the protein as store bought variety. I have include some of the recipes in the link below. It also gave me good control over the volume of the meals that I consumed. I would make up a pot of food and store it and eat it all week. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
