You're not alone. I am scheduled for the laparoscopic sleeve on April 20 and I'm also scared to death. This journey has been two years in the making and even with all the preparation and readiness I've gone through, I'm still apprehensive about the surgery. I just think of all of the positives that will come post surgery :)

Hi

My name is Chrissy and I just registered here. Have booked an MGB revision from a band foR June.

I get the fear and face it by thinking of my future without the surgery. Now that is scary. Am expecting to feel more or less the same as after my band op. Wasnt as bad as I expected and am praying for a repeat of that.

Good luck with it. Hope you can stay positive and concentrate on getting yourself as fit and ready for the op as can be.

Chrissy

Hi Chrissy !! You have definitely made the right choice ! I wish I had went from band to MGB and skipped the sleeve ! Who is doing your revision ?

That's great !! Any complications ? Issues with Vitamin deficiencies or dumping ? Do you know how much of your intestines was bypassed ?

i had 6 ft...vitamins i take two of everything under the sun twice daily...low Iron one time along with vit k and a..all have been controlled as of yet with extra supliments..i have dumped two or three times and i never eat the things that did that to me again because it made me sick...and to be honest i should not have eaten them to begin with...like shakes...your body will not like sugar any more in large quantities but your best bet is after the surgery to never touch sugar again because you wont crave it for a while and that makes that battle so much easier...once you reintroduce sugar to your body you will crave it all the time and it also causes a lot of gas. I have a complication that is very serious...i have a gal bladder duct obstruction...it was not caused by the mgb but because of the mgb they cant get to the duct threw an endoscopy as most people...mine will take three operations done at one time...they have to put a port in my abdomen into my old stomach and go threw that port to the duct and remove the obstruction and then they are going to remove my gal bladder...which i think in my opinion should be removed when you have any gb because there is a high risk of gal bladder problems after surgery if it is still there. but that is my opinion only..most doctors do remove the galbladder at the same time as weight loss surgery..mine does not..i went threw dr p in florida...great dr.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
