Although I did have the Gas X strips, I found walking was a big help.

Good luck with your surgery next week!

My surgery was Feb. 26 and I was completely surprised at how easy it was. Yeah, I was a little sore but nothing like I thought it would be. I would have to say the worst part of the entire experience was surviving the two week pre op liquid diet!

You must be extremely excited for your surgery tomorrow, stay positive and know that your life is about to change for the better. I have not regretted my surgery one bit, especially after seeing the results on the scales during my weekly weigh ins.

A follow up. I had my surgery yesterday I'm impressed for the great nurses that took care of me. Auper sweet and nice. I'm battling with this gas pain but I'm walking around the house. So far no need of pain medication. I've been sipping and walking sleeping on my side helps too. I gotta to admit that I'm a lil hungry so I've having a. Oh yeah shake. But I'm mostly with Water

Hi I'm sure all will go fantastic I've been walking sipping sipping and walking and really helps. I'm thankful I had no issues today I have some kefir with scoop of Protein and a prot shake wit coconut milk and I added some blueberries. I added some Vitamins took me all day to finish it

Jello is heaven and a warm Decaf tea is a like Valium inside your stomach :). But honestly I am hungry but I think is mental. Tomorrow my shake I'll add some spinach and will blend it all

Are you on the preop diet? I have a low bmi so I didn't need to do it

Keep me posted. Best wishes

Gabita-

So glad things are going well! So you are feeling full but "mentally" hungry?

I too don't have to the pre-op diet...you're the first person I've seen to not have too as well!! I have decided to cut caffeine this week, pretty tired but should be better tomorrow. Then starting Friday I'm going to go low carb to give a little jump start, surgery in a week :)

Hi Gabita and Kwcrnp,

I hope you both are recovering well. My surgery is next week, April 22 and I am eager to take this next step.

Kefir + Protein powder sound like a great idea. I'll be sure to try it once I'm post-op.

Day 3 and better! Day 2 after anything is the worst! I had gas pains and was exhausted from poor sleep in the hospital. I went home yesterday, surgery the day before, and took a good nap...made a world of difference.

Last night I slept well, got up a few times to pee and get pain meds but had restful sleep. This AM I feel significantly better :)

I'm on full liquids but am taking it easy and slow...flavored Water, Popsicle and do start with a Protein drink which went well.

So far all is good!

Ima glad all went well. I lost 5 pounds which I was a lil surprise comparing to what others loose but I have no restriction yet. They said is slow at the beginning until I get a fill. Minday I start with solids. For yiur Soups you can add u flavored whey Protein make sure you disolve it first in Water before putting into the Soup

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
