My doctor just gave me a Protein goal this week. Today was my first day, and it has not gone well. I've tried 2 Protein Shakes today, and they were both much to sweet. So I made some cream Soup with milk and added a scoop of Unjury. It was good, but I couldn't eat much of it before I had to stop because I was full. How am I supposed to get all my protein this way? Even if I find a Protein Shake I like, how am I supposed to drink the whole thing?

I LOVE all the unjury flavors, but I find them too sweet at full strength. SO I use half a scoop of the flavor and half a scoop of the UNFLAVORED per 8 ounce shake. This early on you are probably better off making a 4 ounce shake and you can use 1/4 scoop flavored and 3/4 scoop unflavored. Have just two of these per day (make w organic skim milk) and you are already at 50-58g of Protein for the day. Also the Unjury chicken Soup is very good and delivers 20g of Protein with a nice bonus, the 8 ounces of Water used to make it counts toward your fluids for the day!! You can do it :) .

I mix Protein powder with Water, it is less filling and I have never had a problem drinking the whole thing. Think of it as medicine, lol. Your doctor prescribed it. If it is a ready to drink shake try diluting it with Water, I also find them especially sweet and thick.

Keep trying different ways of getting in your Protein. Those Protein goals take time to build up to so don't panic if you don't meet them right away. Keep trying protein drinks/powders until you find what you like. I tried at least 10 different ones as a trial run pre-op and I've probably gone through another 4 -5 post-op. A few I still have occasionally, but there are 2 I consistently use; Isopure unflavored and CVS whey protein vanilla flavor. I don't think I hit my protein goals until somewhere between weeks 1 and 2 post-op and that was just the basic goal of 60gms. I know hit between 80 - 100 everyday.

Unflavored powder that can be mixed with Soups is a nice break from the sweet drinks. Mixing them with Water helps you meet you Fluid goals and lesson the super sweet taste. If you are allowed yogurt, 0% greek yogurt will also cut the sweet taste. Try mixing the Protein Powder with Water and a bit of greek yogurt until it's a thinner drinkable consistency. The greek yogurt (I use FAGE 0%) adds a bit more protein and the slightly sour taste will cut some of the sweet of the Protein Powder.< /p>

GENEPRO (available on Amazon) is an unsweetened Protein powder that packs 30 mg of Protein in just one tablespoon. You can put it in anything you eat or drink.

Try using Water Enhancer drops with the unflavored Protein Powder in your Water. It not only will get you the Protein you need, but will make getting in your fluids much easier. And you can adjust the sweetness level. Dasani has some good ones that don't really add sweetness, just a hint of flavor. Using extracts (eg. lemon, orange, rum, vanilla, maple, peppermint...) also add flavor, but no sweetness. All the best....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
