Hello All Readers,

I'm hoping I can seek some advice here. I had my surgery on the 22nd Of March 2015 at the end of June which makes me 3 months out. I have to fly overseas and the duration of my flying time is around 26hrs approx. Can anyone inform me has to what they ate on their flights?? Any help will be highly appreciated. Have a nice day. You can take tuna/salmon foil packs, cheese, Protein Bars, Protein powders, nuts, etc. food is allowed through TSA, you just have to ensure liquids are less than 3.4 oz. I travel int'l frequently and I did one 14 hour flight with return one month post op. I keep individual packets of fat free italian dressing in my pantry and will take a salad with me to the airport and pack the dressing in my liquids bag. I have taken dannon yougurt on domestic flight, but they confiscated it last time being over the 3.4 oz. I hope this helps!

Sure if that is your preference. I would tuck something different in as well, maybe Jerky or cheese sticks. If you are fling business you can eat the salad and meat portions of the dinner offering. I have yet to find a Econ class meal that is anywhere near suitable for my dietary needs.

Yes. food is allowed on the plane and through TSA. Most major carries don't count food for immediate consumption as a bag for counting your one personal item and one bag for Carry On. You can even carry a salad and deli meats tooo! I do it all the time.

Oh yeah, warning one tuna packs and blue cheese, they are a little stinky to eat in such tight quarters, I learned it the hard way! Haha. But deli meats, jerkins, and cheddar cheeses are great for inflight meals.

As a frequently traveler, I'd suggest Protein Snacks, and putting in a request for special dietary needs. While tuna and salmon are a great suggestion, in my experience it's not a very popular choice if you want to be considerate to your neighbors. While I love both, the smell of fish that has been brought aboard and sat for a while in your cooler bag seems to have a different oder than fish the airlines may prepare during the flight. Again just the experience of a guy who flew over 300,000 miles last year. :-)

Hello blacktee92675, So I think what is best for me since I'll be travelling for approx 26hrs I'll fill my bag will Protien snakes. Since I'll be flying Econ I might just try and have a few bites of the chicken and the mashes potatoes. Most flights have this meal. Thanks for your input. Prada.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
