mamasbabies 4 Posted April 1, 2015 I received a call this morning from a nurse with my insurance company. She asked a lot if questions and wanted to let me know that she was here to help. I have to admit, i felt uneasy about speaking to someone I've never met about my health information. Has anyone else experienced this with the insurance company? I just received my approval yesterday by the way.
Crosby 303 Posted April 1, 2015 Aetna right? I have..it is a service they offer. I have had three surgeries this year and the same person has followed me through them. I do believe it is voluntary.
lexiemustang 268 Posted April 2, 2015 I received one of these calls too...I have United. It actually kind of pissed me off because they called after I was approved for the surgery. I wanted to tell her "Um don't you think I've already tried everything you've suggested?" I know they are just doing their job, but it came off a bit condescending. TristanNicole 169 Posted April 2, 2015 I have United Healthcare and I had to sign up for there bariatric program and I scheduled a call with a nurse and they sent me a packet of information in the mail about surgery. I thought my experience was good, the information the sent was helpful and informative and the nurse I talked with sounded like she was there to help with anything if I needed it, went over some things with me, asked if I knew what surgery I wanted, told me the requirements. I don't remember really sharing any personal information with her, only what applied to the surgery regarding requirements.
Geron Girls 70 Posted April 2, 2015 Mine is with my insurance and was really nice and helpful both times I have chatted with her. She gave me her direct line, told me to call anytime with any questions, and was very encouraging.
mamasbabies 4 Posted April 2, 2015 Thank you all for sharing. It felt a bit invasive because she wanted to know about my medical history, medications i take and so on. She then asked if she could continue to call and check on me. I usually only talk to my doctor about these things. She may be only trying to help but my doctors and staff are doing a great job. Its not really needed.
shellyd88 463 Posted April 3, 2015 I have blue cross blue shield in ny I also got this I was told it was part of what they provide in regards to bariatric surgery she asked about my interactions with the hospital staff bloodwork follow up meds if any were added or stopped how much u were eating drinking using the bathroom etc I got the impression it was done as sort of a way the insurance company could be sure we get good follow up care and don't get dehydrated or get infections etc therefore not getting re admitted and costing them more money I've seen what they paid out for my surgery so far $ 28,000 plus I'm sure that hurts lol
