I walked a little after my band like a week after but my doctor didn't want me doing really anything until about three weeks.....then I would walk around my block then two blocks etc. It's 5 weeks past now and I go to the gym for an hour and I am only aloud to go on the treadmill and the eliptical. So I do a half on each. I go for my first fill in a week. Then he said we will discuss weight training. I guess every one is different. I am down 20 lbs or so I haven't weighed myself for about over a week. just started my reg food....only a cup to a cup an a half. Mostly proten.

I go to the gym ...well I should say I try at least three times a week. But I never sit anyway, always moving around. I feel great and all my clothes are lose.

I go to the track and walk 3 miles 5-6 times a week at 4:30am. I usually do yoga once per week and work out with 10 lb weights once per week in addition to riding a stationary bike.

Since I have kicked up the exercise 30 minutes longer every day and go faster I have dropped 10 lbs. in one month for a total of 84. My year anniversary from being banded will be Dec 26, 2008 and I want to make it to 100 by then.

For those of you who do exercise, I was banded on Monday, September 15 and was just wondering how long should I wait before I start an exercise routine?

I started exercising 4 days after. I was feeling fine, and wasn't in any pain. I took it real slow, only did about 15 minutes each on the treadmill and eliptical. I then pumped it up, I know go 5 times a week for 1 hr. I see a trainer twice a week. I'm 6 weeks out, last time I weighed I had lost 20 pounds. I have lost way more inches. Went shopping today, I can't fit any of my clothes:thumbup::thumbup:

First and foremost, ask your physician and follow his/her instructions. The advice varies from surgeon to surgeon and you should follow your own.

I think I was on the treadmill after about a week. I started off really slow with no incline. I think my speed was something like 1.9 miles an hour and I only did 15-20 minutes. The object was not to lose weight and inches in the beginning. I was more focused on getting into a workable routine for myself and finding an exercise I enjoyed enough to get me to do it more than once every few days or weeks.

Exercise isn't just beneficial for you physically. Your mental health benefits as well simply by knowing you're doing something to get yourself on the road to good health.

I do between an hour and hour and half a day. First I go to the park with my dogs, and walk a mile, then home and do one exercise DVD. At work I sit on an exercise ball for 2 hours. Sometimes I do an aerobics DVD, sometimes a toning one. I´ve just ordered some Zumba DVDs...anyone done those?

Globally Yours - I loooovvvveee Zumba! I initially took the classes at a gym I belonged to, but when I changed jobs, I couldn't make it to class any more, so I bought the DVD's as well.

You do need a good-sized room to do it properly - I move a LOT during Zumba class! Check to see if there are any near you - the camaraderie in the classes was great for me, and a great instructor makes all the difference. There are different levels of classes and each instructor should tell you how to do a 'low intensity' version of the move as well.

I will definately go back to them after surgery - right now my house is a mess so I don't have the room, but you've inspired me, so I am going home to clean out a spot for my Zumba practice!:rolleyes2:

I worked up a GREAT sweat, had a lot of fun, listened to great music, had a great time...

Thanks for the replies about Zumba. I´ve ordered some DVDs from Ebay. I´ll probably look silly doing it, but don´t care, it looks sooooooo much fun!

Will let you know!

You can start out slow, maybe just start by walking 15 min - I started out on treadmill about 10 days after surgery, I could only walk about 10 to 15 min until my port area would get sore. I gradually built up to the elliptical for 45 min and then weights.

Your body will tell you if your doing too much. You might as your doc about it as well. They usually don't want any hard core exercise in the adominal area for 4 to 6 weeks.

Congratulations on your new journey!

This morning when I was at my gym, I noticed they are doing a Zumba class on Thursday evenings, I am planning on trying it out. I can't tonight because we are going to the Fair/Ice Capades, but I've got it on my calendar for next week.

Pre-op 2 mile treadmill walk at 5% incline 4-5 times a week. Plus stretchy band to help losen up my back.

Post op 18 days out, this is my first day back on the treadmill and it felt great. Now I am starting upper body hand weights.

I exercise at least 4 days a week (structured exercise) but since losing some weight, I've generally been more active. I don't put my baby in the pram anymore, I lug his 15kg around on a sling on my back. I walk everywhere. I play cricket with my teenaged son. I get active pretty much everyday.

I think you can still lose with the band if you don't exercise. But I don't think you'll lose it fast, nor will you likely lose 100% of your excess weight. And if you're okay with that, cool.

I want to lose 100% of my excess weight, so I exercised from 4 days post op. Less at first, but as I lost and got fitter, I exercised more.

I too am a regular exerciser. I was up to 6 days a week but now that I have gone back to school I had to cut it down to 3-4. I am still losing consistantly, about 1-2lbs a week, so it seems it is still working for me. I do 45 min. on the eliptical and 30 min. on the weights. I am so close to goal that I thought my weight loss would slow but fortunately it has not. I hope to reach my goal weight by my one year anniversary (Jan. 30th), I know I can do this:thumbup:

I was going to the gum and then if I didn't go to the gym I did Wii....Wii isn't like the best thing ever but a half an hour before work was pretty good. But now I am lucky I get there Monday night for Latin class then Saturday morning for an hour. I think this is why I am not losing weight fast like everyone else. I lose to 1 lb to less maybe a week. Had my surgery Aug 5th 2008 and I am only down 24 lbs. Two fills....I can't eat allot but with menopause in full bloom and being 50 yrs old it takes me long time to lose....which means I should be going to the gym at least 4 times a week. I think if I was doing that I would lose faster. Thou my doctor said slow is very good and I am doing good. I don't feel it. I mean my clothes are big on me and you can tell I lost weight, but I feel I should be over 30 lbs by now. Well I guess I answered my own reply lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
